well, don't want to use bad officiating as an excuse but Gillis made some good argument this aft.
head shot to Bieks? slashing and slewfooting Sedin? penalty shot?

I'm optimistic Vancouver will win tomorrow and this will prove to be the series that turned it around.
Game 7 at home, gotta like their chances.

I don't doubt Chicago is a good team although a dirty one. lots of cheap tactics.
they'll have what's coming to them tomorrow night because I believe the hockey gods wants the good guys to win.

and nope, I'm no hockey expert. just a fan who's stuck with the team through thick and thin.
I'll leave the 'expert' commentating to you and BJH.

GO CANUCKS GO!
Okaaay... so why wasn't Gillis complaining about the refs after the first three games?

Blaming the refs is the time-honoured property of Losers. It wasn't the refs who didn't show up in games 4-5 and stunk two arenas out with indifferent play. The Canucks had every chance to finish the series and blew it. Now it's a coin toss.

It would serve Gillis right if his whining backfires and the refs keep a bigger eye on his team.

In case any NHL coaches read perb I thought I'd offer 10 suggestions of how to beat the Canucks in the playoffs.
-------------------

1. ferocious forechecking. The Canucks are given way too much time to set up. Rush them and they make mistakes.

2. Don't take stupid penalties. The strong Canuck PP will kill, even with tighter playoff checking.

3. Don't let the Sedins set up behind the net. gretzky was the king of setting up "in the office" behind the net, but The Sedins are also given too much space and time back there.

4. Stop the first line and you negate 80% of the Canucks scoring threat. Easier said than done, but Burrows is weak, so it's just The Sedins and defencemen stepping up yu really have to worry about.

5. More traffic in front of Luongo. With the nets being so small relative to the giant goalies like Luongo you are essentially trying to score against a plywood board with a couple of holes in it. The bigger goalies barely have to move. Screening and tips are the best way to score.

6.Getting Luongo off his game. Again, standing on him and blocking im, but without taking penalties. Degree of difficulty - 9.2.

7. Goad the dummies - draw retaliation penalties from the dumber players like Burrows, Lapierre and Samuelsson.

8. Stretch passes. Chicago has killed the Canucks with break-out strtch passes.

9. Adjusting during the game. depending on the team, the edge should usually go to the opponent. Vigneault has been outcoached every playoff series.

10. Hit the Bastards - This is the big one. The Caucks aren't big or tough. Pounding them tenderizes them. Again, the trick is not to take dumb penalties, but in the playoffs there is usually more tolerance and fewer calls.

how did that work for you Cockwhisperer?
I'll still give you the JackAssAdams awards for your coaching intelligence.
I bet you're going for Nashville Round 2 eh?
good luck with that.

I'll understand if I don't hear a response from you.
you and BJHunter have a good cry okay?

simply outplayed by the better team…c'mon just admit it and u might get some respect from me.

Hmmm...okay great experts badgerjohn and manni, how do you explain things so far?

Vancouver might still pull it out in the first round, but do they really look very good? Even the first three they won weren't very convincing.

Now they have Salo and Schneider out and Luongo the head case in.

you should join the CBC crew with your insightful commentary.
LOL!

The PP for Hawks was 5 to 4 in the 1st 3 games, the PP for the Hawks after 6 games was 27 to 16 . Gillis had a valid point
Game 7 , 2 PP per team, guess who won?

I continue to find it amazing that there are so many hockey experts on as Wilde said earlier a hooker review board.

Personally, I think most of the posters here haven't got a clue when it comes to hockey. Nada, zip, zero.

First it wasn't bjh or huntsberger, and now cockbrain.

Aside from sitting in your lazyboy, have any of you morons ever played the game. Have you ever been involved in any sport in your life. I would be very surprised if the answer was yes.

This Canuck team doesn't look back, it plays in the present with an eye on the future. It doesn't matter what happened for the first 40 years of this franchise. Nothing that happened before will have an outcome on this Cup drive. This team has faced adversity and come through, or maybe beating the defending Stanley Cup Champs is not worth mentioning.

I prediicted this team has the stuff to go all the way, and I have no reason to change my mind. I could quote you chapter and verse of how this team matches up to previous Stanley Cup Champs, but in reality they still have to do it on the ice, and guess what, they will.

So all you naysayers who can only find negativity in your life, you have to live with yourself. The negative vibes you cast off must be wonderful for all the people who are close to you in your life. I feel sorry for them to have to be inundated with such negativity.

Get a life.

You will notice one thing hockey trolls have in common. They NEVER make picks.

The closest a troll ever came to making actual picks was BJH a couple years back, when he picked Pittsburg to win the SC.
Midway through the final series ;)

Or sometimes hunsberger, making UFC predictions the day after the fights, and always making the right picks.

Its simple stats, pick any team, say they WONT win the cup, you are almost always right.
And very smart in your own mind.

I predict NONE of the 8 team left tomorrow morning win the cup.
Guess what I am right 7 out of 8, 88% thats an A

papillon, have you ever heard a team complain about refs after they win?

It's a loser's strategy. Gillis should have asked his team why THEY didn't show up for two games. The reffing wouldn't have been an issue.

lanzman, whoopee - you made a prediction. So fucking what? Personally, I don't care who wins, but I'd prefer anybody but the Canucks. But if you want a prediction, I'll pick Detroit out of a hat.

You don't have any more fucking hockey knowledge than anybody else.Predictions are speculation. Picking the favourite team must have been an incredible stretch for you.

I gave credible reasons on how the Canucks could be beaten. They still hold. If Chicago was healthy and hit more they would have won. It fucking came down to a shot from Sharp two inches higher and the Canucks would have been out. They didn't exactly blow the Hawks away. It was a flip of the coin.

PS - It's the FIRST ROUND.

On the contrary. Until this year (so far) they usually please me a lot by losing most of the time, but if they win, meh. I don't have any control of it and it doesn't affect my life. Some of you guys are the ones who seem to have itchy balls over any criticism of them.

Actually, His statement was that the Canucks have the capability to win the cup. And guess what? That's correct. That's also correct of a lot of teams. Even if they end up not winning, that doesn't mean they didn't have the ability to win. A fan cheering for his favourite: Whouda thunk?

I gave credible reasons on how the Canucks could be beaten. They still hold.
There's a difference between qualifying positive assessments with reasonable criticisms. It's another thing to simply pick the field. You've just been going on nothing but negatives, already admitting to doing so with the sole purpose of taking a shit on people's enjoyment of the Canucks' success. That means you're a troll. So don't be surprised if people are going to address you as such.

I'm honestly not trying to be a troll.

The Canucks sailed through the regular season as the best team. That's a given. I congratulate them on that.

The post season is different and I saw things I think make them beatable. An 8th place team, pounding them in two games and taking them to a 7th game OT shows they definitely ARE beatable. They were that close to bowing out in the first round, so my comments weren't wildly out in left field. And if they had gone out in the first round how many would be calling them every name in the book?

I don't like them because of my personal dealings with management and players, but I have no control over whether they win or lose - and neither does anyone else here unless you are an actual Canuck player.

Predictions - based on how much you like your team, or if you once played pee wee hockey, or if you line up Tarot cards are just speculation. Saying they WILL win the cup because you like them is just hopeful speculation.

Thanks, aznboi9 for at least keeping things respectful.

You may not be a troll but you are extremely negative and not just about the Canucks. You seem to always be bashing someone. Any useful information gets drowned out in a sea of negativity.

I don't think the Canucks sailed thru the season. They managed to win despite huge injuries to their defense. There was a stretch where 5 of 6 starting defense were out. They walked thru their last couple of weeks yes.

You don't like the Canucks because of some personal issues. Well, I don't see the point of taking it out on the fans. Whether you hate the Canucks or not they will continue being a success in this market, Stanley Cup or not.

I agree with you on predictions. They are pure speculation. There are too many unknowns like injuries, illnesses and the like that we never hear about.

As far as keeping thinds respectful, I really believe in doing this. That's why my threads don't start with or contain "F**king this" or "F**king that". Even if someone said this to one of my posts I wouldn't do it. How many threads have you started with this kind of title?

Dealings with management & players? Do you have a coffee stand/shoe shine business next to Rogers arena?
No, but if you want an idea of what the Canucks are really like and how they deal with people - they have started sending lawyer's letters to businesses warning them not to use the phrase, "Go Canucks Go" because, believe it or not, they have it copyrighted.

Think about that that for a second - any business who dares put up a sign using that phrase - which promotes the Canucks brand - can get a cease and desist order. Amazing and pathetic. This, from a business that scores free publicity through media every day. What other business gets the free exposure sports teams get?

As I understand it, the legal shenanigans are not from the Canucks office but from the NHL League office. The Canucks office have not commented on the issue yet.

That is true. I found out it came from the league and more than one letter has gone out. Seems counterproductive, to me, but the brainiacs at NHL HQ aren't known for their smarts.

Ahem.

My curse bent, but didn't break.

Finally a team got my memo.

Only thing I missed was how easy it seemed to be to shut down Vancouver's PP.

Sedins and Burrows Minus 4 in the seventh - they may as well have been wearing Boston sweaters.

Thanks manni for manning up with a congrats..
