How Often You Guys Get Tested?

I got my results back yesterday and all clear, which is always a relief. For me its condom for everything, no kissing, no daty. But its getting embarrassing dropping in every 6 months for std testing. The women at the labs look at my record and say "so you've been here before I see", some of them remember me and leave it at that. Then when I drop into the clinic for results the dr pull out the history of testing, which is pages, and must be wondering "whats this guy up to?". They are always totally professional but its still uncomfortable.

If an sp is getting the regular testing they say they get, I can't imagine how they must feel each time.

I don't really poon enough to warrant testing on a regular basis. After a condom break several years back I went through the whole "what if" thing but everything came back clean. I went to a health clinic and they were pretty casual about the whole thing. I think they would rather see you coming in for testing than not. They understand that it can be embarrassing and try to make it as pleasant (?) as possible. But generally I go in once a year and get tested for everything. I know that some STIs will have no symptoms, but not having a SO and always playing safe, I feel that its enough. As far as worrying about what they are thinking, it's your health who cares what they think.

Quarterly is what was recommended to me by the clinic and I put a note in my calendar to remind me when I'm due.

When i was more active . i would go every 3months.. Now i see the same girl.. she is retired . but friendly with me.. so maybe i get some a few times a yr..So i get test maybe once or twice a yr now

As for SP.s .. i still think they should get tested every month... but i find that there are some girls that may not get tested .much . unless they have some complaint .. or an accident while working..
The problem is they all assum there. SO are clean. and do .and play safe with others...Dont assum that girls

When it come to going.. . first off be honest with your doctor.. then they will take your testing seriously.. and if you ever go to the doc . with something.. they will consider . every thing when it comes to treating you..

There no neex to be embarest about doing what you want to . and are comfortable with foing.. Our sex life is ours ..you have no idea. what there sex life is. . and thry have no right to judge

I have been going every 3 months for the last 5-6 years and have never felt judged or uncomfortable, maybe you need to try a new clinic. The BCCDC STI clinic on 12th is really great

That's the Bute Street Clinic and that's the one I usually go to when I get tested as my schedule is very fluidly and I think the CDC std clinic you usually need an appointment. Though recently I went through my family doctor for my testing. As for the original question I usually get tested 2 times a year now.

I'm pretty sure you can walk in to the cdc on 12th too or call same day if you think you have an emergency. There usually are a few appointment cancelations or no shows every day. Sometimes you get a cute nurse too.

Who cares? You're getting tested, it's free and you get a clean bill of health. The nurses are very professional and they don't give a shit about your personal life other than a professional interest in your health.

I try to get tested every 6 months or whenever I have a new partner. Don't worry about it... just be safe, get tested and stay clean!

i say this with complete respect for your feelings of discomfort... but if you feel uncomfortable with getting tested by a professional, maybe you should be doing some soul-searching about your participation in this business.

if you do decide to stay in it - take ownership of it... let your inhibitions go. you'll enjoy it much more deeply if you can shed the guilt and embarassment. just sayin'

You realize it's not just those involved in the sex industry getting tested right? I got tested more regularly than before I started seeing escorts.

Problem is I'm bit of a hypochondriac but a horny one at that.

I used to go regularly - when I first started pooning I was always scared I had caught something. But multiple negatives - it kind of makes you think that everything is probably OK. I should really go again as it has been a year.

I don't think anyone should be embarrassed to get tested. If you live in a small community you could always go to a nice walk-in clinic in Vancouver, or make an appointment at the Center for Disease Control on 12th near VGH, they are very non-judgemental there. I asked a lot of questions there when I was new to the game to find out about what risks there are for BBBJs (very slight) and other things I like. I also went to Crossroads at Cambie and Broadway and likes both docs I say there too.
For the actual lab tests, you could try a variety of different ones outside your community if you are shy.
But basically, anyone who works in healthcare or a lab is going to think more of you for your testing, not less!

You can try walking in. I usually just book my next appointment for 3 to 6 months later right after my last appointment though.
