so im watchin tv last night and there was a global news commercial on saying that there would be a reporter at kerry's headquarters, a reporter at bush's headquaters, a reporter in washington and some other reporter somewhere covering the US election. now i dont remember that much coverage for the canadian election. now dont respond and say that whoever is elected effects us, because it will to some certain extent, but when paul martin was elected that effects us even more but there wasnt as much coverage.

You're wrong.

There is tons of coverage during a Canadian election. Reporters at local candidate's riding offices, reporters at the National offices etc etc... NewsWorld in on day covering the voting and all three Canadian networks carry the results live.

If you didn't see any of that I have no idea what TV channels you were watching.

Unless the laws have changed, the CRTC will not allow TV to carry election results to a province until all of the polls have closed in that province. So there is likey a great deal of coverage happening during a CDN federal election that you do not see until after 8:00PM Pacific time.

BTW- I think that rule makes sense although the internet now defeats the purpose for the rule in the first place.

The feds did in fact end this antiquated blackout provision in June of this year, just before the last federal election. See story .

While I also agree with the reasoning and spirit behind the legislation banning election reporting until the polls close in any particular region, it is near impossible to enforce in this day and age of the internet. What I've never understood is why they don't just stagger the polling times in each different time zone to make it uniform across the country. For example, if the Newfies are voting from nine a.m. until ten p.m., B.C. could poll from eight a.m. until six p.m. In this way, it makes it slightly less convenient for us out west to vote, but all the polls close at the same time nationwide. I also think that voting should be made mandatory, as it is in Australia.

And yes, you can all see that in my first sentence, myself and LuckyDog have finally agreed on something. Could this be the start of something new? I wonder.....................? LOL

Fat lot of good that did. The Aussies re-elected John Howard, who has his head so far up Bush's ass, he can see Tony Blair.

We could never get away with what Mexico might be doing. All the U.S. wants from them is slave labour. If we tried it, they would roll the fucking tanks up here faster than you could say "go ahead and take our oil, gas, water, lumber, and electricity".

Yep, that would sure show them....

Canada needs China, Japan, France, Germany etc to be much larger trading partners. Especially China. Martin should be cutting deals with them left, right, and center. Wouldn't it be great to say to the U.S. one day "the extra we're not using ourselves? Sorry, we're sold out".

Also, nice to see that 70% of the population doesn't blame their leadership for leaving their country short on flu vaccines. Now they can come up here and use some of our "third world" supplies.

If Kerry wins you may get your wish LK.

He wants to open up the border so Yanks can buy Canadian drugs.

If that happens the American drug companies who sell drugs in Canada under price controls will limit supplies to Canada. If they did not they would be cutting their own profits.

Canada would have to impose a Canadians only drug sale policy or your prices would rise to American levels.

I actually support Kerry on this. I think the end result would be our drug prices would reduce slightly and Canadian drug prices would go up.

Canada exports its wood in logs or at best dimensioned lumber. Why do you do that? It is beyond me. Why not take your wood and mill it then take it to a finished product before export. By exporting logs you are exporting Canadian jobs.

There is no one holding a gun to your head to make you do this.

LK, stop f*** whining and crying about how bad off you are and do something positive. You have a great country with great potential. Idiots like you that just whine all of the time about how badly you are treated by the US, drag your country down.

Think about this:
Your population is 1/10 of the US
Your land mass is larger than the US
You have more natural resources than the US - wood / water / minerals / oil& gas / fish
You have the ability to generate excessive amounts of electricity
Your population is concentrated in two or three major areas
You do not need to spend much money on military

Canada should have more money than even the riches oil producers. Canada is so far under its potential it is a crime.

It is not my fault that you have decided not to take advantage of all of the things Canada has. But please stop whining

Grendleaxle, I think you are making my point.

Canada is a great country with great potential. The US is luck to have such a great country as a neighbor.

Why do people like LK continually whine.

LK , if you don't like your situation there is only one person that can do something about it, you.

LD, you basically substantiated my point. "Amarica" does take Canada for granted and shame on our politicians for allowing that to happen while not developing a better "customer base" as I noted.

Whining? I think not. Whining is when you're in a country you shouldn't be in, with you're kids getting blown to pieces and civilians getting their heads chopped off and complaining about it. That's whining.
