I only have a measly 9 days. Should have been a government worker. I hear Toronto garbage workers get 18 a year. How does Vancouver garbage workers compare?
Personally I think 9 is plenty. I don't understand the concept of being away sick and providing absolutely no value to the company and yet expecting to get paid. That's doubly painful if the company has to hire someone for the day to forefill someone's obligations. See the whole concept of an employee is for them to bring in more revenue then they cost, otherwise what's the point? Businesses aren't charitable organizations.
None! I am self employed and own my own company.
If I don't work, I don't eat.
I don't even get EI like my employees, if my company was to go under and I was unemployed.
20 days here, plus doctors appointments, and 5 days to take care of family members if they are sick.
25 vacation days, 1 personal day, 1 volunteer day, and up to 10 days to take online courses at home.

I don't get any, I'm self-employed as well. 9 days seems pretty reasonable to me, I've only missed 3 days of work in 12 years due to illness and that was when I was in the hospital getting surgery. I get a flu shot every year, so I don't normally get sick. I get colds but I'm not gonna lay around feeling sorry for myself because I have the sniffles.
The Toronto garbage workers had a pretty sweet deal, 18 days plus they got to bank them. No more banked sick days for them (Boohoo, ).

I get 12 - one per month. As far as I'm concerned, that's a reasonable amount.
To all the self-employed and business owners who (obviously) don't get any paid sick days, I really hope you've invested in appropriate insurance in case you get seriously sick and/or injured and can't work for a significant period of time. Most self-employed and small business owners who I've talked to don't have any such insurance because they "can't afford it." I don't understand that way of thinking, because how can they afford the risk of not having any income?
