Holy fuck!!! I got it right!!! Beijing will only allow local Chinese fans in the stands - just as I predicted!!!

That's going to go over like a lead ballon with every other country. The Chinese are going to look really bad that that did not do like Japan and be fair about it. How is it fair that only Chinese athelites will have fans cheering them on ?!?!

They could add competative Covid Catching as an event .

Please, tell me what are you smoking, I have been looking for something that can transport one to alternate reality for years now.
You know. you've got me thinking. Maybe I am wrong. Maybe those Uyghurs are hallucinating. They aren't in a gulag after all.

You were definitely hallucinating when you wrote U.S military is no match to China's. I don't think you heard about a recent ass whooping China's army got in Galwan by Indian Army.

I don't think you heard about the recent ass whooping America's army got in Afghanistan, Iraq and Vietnam. A country the size of a postage stamp with no air power, handed the Americans their asses in spite of being carpet bombed for 10 years by a country a hundred times their size.

They chased Russia out too. And before that Britain and before that (pick the empire of the day). It's known as the "graveyard of empires".

I'm no military expert, so i'm sure there will be lots of rebuttals and opposing statement to my comment but here it goes.
A war with China, while being the end of civilization as we know it, would not be the same or comparable to the conflicts you highlight. This would be a more conventional conflict with an enemy they know and can identify. The problem would arise if it ever got to point of invading the other country which would not happen in a conflict between the US and China.
In all of those you mention, it is pretty well impossible for a conventional army to go in a defeat the enemy. You are fighting an enemy who can easily retreat and hide amongst the civilian population. So unless an army is going to go in and lay waste to anything that moves, even among the civilian population, which would not be tolerated by media or the rest of the world, these wars are unwinnable. They may suffer their defeats but will always resurface to fight another day. Look at how the Taliban was supposedly long gone and in less than 2 weeks took over the entire country. Even ISIS is resurfacing. Throw in the fanatical religious beliefs that drive them in places like Afghanistan and that even makes victory more difficult if not impossible.
Cheers

Added to this is the fact that when the US fights these wars, the supply chain to keep the war machine going (ammo, weapons, fuel, shelter, medical, food, etc) is thousands of miles long. The insurgent has what he needs in the next village.

Plus there are multiples waiting to be shot full of heroin to rush the enemy in bomb laden trucks or vests, as they look forward to meeting the 72 virgins. The original guerillas as they hide in plain sight. Crazy to even think of fighting any kind of normal war with those people.

The US was quite willing to go in and lay waste to anything that moved in Vietnam and Iraq. It was tolerated by the media and the rest of the world.

If you read the novel Dune, a SciFi classic published back in 1965, it is clear that the author Frank Herbert based the fighting practices of the natives of the planet Dune on the guerilla tactics of the arabs. One of the more famous quotes from the novel is: "He who can destroy a thing, controls a thing". This was in reference to the spice being harvested on Dune but required across the universe for purposes including intergalatic travel. This was also true in Afganistan, where the fighters were quite willing to destroy their own villages in order to take it away from the enemy.

If China and the US get into a war it probably won’t be a land war it’ll be a sea war over the Spratly Islands for there oil and mineral resources and for control of the sea lanes. It would be a contest between the American much vaunted but never combat tested Carrier Battle Groups and nuclear submarines, both designed for blue water operations, and the Chinese fleet of SSK’s which are designed for shallow waters.

Well if you think Taliban chased U.S out, I don't know what else to say to you. U.S just was not interested in holding Afghanistan anymore. You think Taliban could not chase U.S out in 20 years and all of a sudden in just 2-3 months they got superpowers.

Well this is called selective amnesia. Why don't you talk about the China-Vietnam war of 1979 and what happened there.

China got their asses kicked. So Vietnam kicks ass. I don't know what's selective about mentioning a chronological threesome of defeats with no victories in that time period to compare to. Point out any victories the US had during that time period. Refresh my memory.

My observation: It's funny, I've never met a Chinese person who really pissed me off. The contributions to cuisine and their respect for education are legendary. I don't like that most of them are guarded and keep things to themselves, but I think that is out of necessity. These people are not stupid, and to survive an insidious gov't, they can't speak out for fear of head being lopped off. So, just like us, they try not to think about that, and instead work to enjoy life. Waiting for the next revolution may take a while. We are so lucky here. Let's not blow it!

I think we should send our athletes, but ambassadors, diplomats, and politicos should stay away and continue to call out China's abuses. Otherwise they'll win all the medals and tell their people how great is Mother China.

Good point. I think of all the Chinese I have met and currently know. Canadian born (1st or 2nd generation) but mostly the recent immigrants or students. They are nothing but wonderful people and good friends. But it is interesting when one tries to engage them in conversation about the CCP or the goings on in China. They basically clam up. Say very little and what they do say, supports the CCP official stance. Either for fear of retaliation back home or they've been indoctrinated with the CCP propaganda. Probably a bit of both.
PS: I can say the same thing about the few Russian friends I have as well.

You started talking about wars from 1979. My original point was about your comparison between U.S and Chinese military right now. Wars are not fought with just weapons, you need soldiers willing to die for you and above all experience. U.S has been fighting wars throughout their existence and there is no match to them at the moment. Anyways, this is not the topic of the thread and no point in arguing with someone who can never be wrong.
