How easy/hard is it to fight speeding tickets?

Years ago, the appearance rate was fairly low, and half the time, one got off just by showing up.

With our overloaded LE nowadays, do they really have time to appear taking up half a day of their time, that would be better spent elsewhere?

I've got court coming up in a few days, and being xmas and all I'm hoping like a mofo the friggen cop doesn't show up. He's certainly gonna spol the xmas apples if he does. :(

The thing I don't get is these people with gobs of tickets, or so they say, and never pay them. I'm like WTF, how can you not pay them, unless you mean they're tied up in red tape because your disputing them and you haven't received a court date yet, but I don't think thats what they mean.

Because the way I understand it, when you goto renew your insurance or license the fukkin broad at the autoplan dealer is gonna figure out you have outstanding tickets and you won't be able to renew your insurance/license. So maybe your off the hook for a few months, but not years.

I missed my September court date and I've just started receiving "pay up motha fukka" letters from ICBC. When I renew my insurance in April I will have to pay these fines, no way around it.

Am I wrong?!?!?!?!

i'd pay your ticket if i could , get a date with "HER".
who is she?
She's my housekeeper... ;)

Hitrack, I guess I'll roll the dice and get a Court date. Everything you and Stryker say is right on...

I just hate forking out $196, or the discounted rate if I pay within 7 days. What's up with that?

Definitely show up if you're intending on fighting a speeding ticket or other kind of violation.

Several years ago I got nailed for driving while my license was suspended. Hefty fine and worse case scenarion, time with a tracking braclet while under house arrest were the consequences I was faced with. I went to a lawyer and we tried to figure a way out of it. On our court date, I was there with my lawyer and the cop was there too. He stood up and said that he could not positively indentify me as the person he pulled over.....

Case dismissed....

Thanks SWG, good tips!

The missus wants to pay it for me, but I can't bring myself to parting with that kind of dough.

I'll bet the early bird $25 discount and get a date.

I think that cut is to relieve the workload on LE.

It costs them more than $196 to appear, I'm sure...

Depends on the local.... Richmond officers tend not to bother... the couple times I've been there, the acquittal rate was about 80%.

I would fight it and request an afternoon court time... mornings the officer is fresh off his donut fix... and ready to go... afternoon, something could have come up (like Lenny stealing a couple cars playing Grand Theft Auto: vancouver) and the officer will be indisposed doing that instead of presenting testimony at your petty traffic offense trial. I usually request Friday court times as well... this increases the odds of the officer leaving for a "4 day weekend" and not bothering with your ticket. I have about a 66% success rate since I've had my license... I went through an awesome spell where I was winning everything in sight (even when the cop showed up!), then a dry spell of bad judges that were finding me guilty even though I was innocent  , and now I seem to be on a roll again...

Agreed with QMR. If you find yourself debating the above shit to often your obviously doing something wrong to be getting your self in that much fukkin hot water all the time.

It's only cool to say "oh man guess what?? I got another fukkin speeding ticket" if your 17yrs old. If your in your 30's you should have dummied up by now.

Or,...........come spring time bring your machine to Mission Raceway
and have a blast going as bloody fast as you can........

Guaranteed,............... no speeding tickets!!:D

Hmmm, now this might be a good excuse for a spring time
