How do you walk away from the business as an SP?

I have often wondered how an SP manages to walk away and leave the business behind for good. I mean if I was making six figures a year it would be almost impossible to leave it and try to work a "normal" job where you are getting paid far less. I guess the money can be so good you can build a lifestyle around that income that if you were to leave, you would have to sell your condo, and downgrade your lifestyle dramatically. So you can get trapped.

I mean I know this line of work is hard on you, it takes it toll mentally, emotionally, etc. The stigma, the shame that accompanies getting "outted", or having your private life become public can be devastating to say the least.

How do you walk away from it? And I guess the second part is: What motivates you to walk away from it?

When you have somewhere else to direct your energy.

How) This has come up in other threads and, the most common answer was, "have an exit strategy. If you spend all the money while the gettin' is good, you have nowhere to go but down, and that's not a pretty sight.

Make hay while the sun shines, and save some of those 'figures'. That's the only way it can be successfully done.

Why) You've already answered your own question. Plus the reviews will indicate that it's not cute to do this work as a Granny.

About 60% of my earnings from this business goes into my other business to reinvest in my future and my kids future. I've put myself through university with this job, have two kids in university courtesy of this job and another on their way there in a year. I started a business for myself a while back and that's what I do when I'm not doing this and it pays more than this job does, so I won't be "missing money". This year I downgraded from my fancy, upscale yaletown condo and moved to the "burbs", nothing fancy, but it does the job, it's clean and serves it's purpose and I did that so I could save more money for my upcoming retirement next month. I slashed my rates because I could afford to pass that savings on to clients. I'm super excited about my future and am EXTREMELY grateful for every person that I've met in this industry, good and bad, because it's shaped who I am as a person, what I stand for, what I don't want to stand for and who I am becoming.

Will it be hard to walk away? Maybe in some aspects but overall I'm really excited to see what the future holds for me.
