So I was just reading what some one said B36 said.."that it us legal to sell or offer sexual service for money but illegal to offer to buy sexual services."

As I understand that the it would mean if an escort said to me . :you can have sex with me for$200 " and I say "sure" And pay her .Then I have not broken any law because I did not offer or ask to buy sex from her.
As long as long as the escort is the instigator on offering sexual services and sayING what she offers and the price ..Then the john is not guilty of an offernce under the law.
It is a very small point but the only thing that make sense.
This is my vague understanding of it as well and would be quite the loophole if true. Can anybody confirm this?

One of the biggest reason why escorts will not discuss specifics. yes we can offer, but you can't buy it
So instead we don't offer specific services, just time and companionship. That way no laws are being broken. this helps us to protect the client.

I still find that statement totally ambivalent. .

You can sell cookies but I can't buy the cookies , just because that is writen in a law is it reasonable to assume it is correct.. No!!! Because it does not make sense !

I just tried to read the actual "Bull36" and it gave me a head ache.

Has any sting occurred in Canada and the clients been prosicuted?

The US have different laws then us which allow for the sting op that were mentioned here.

You cannot buy or offer to buy sex. Regardless of if an SP solicits you, it's the exchange of money for sexual services that is illegal. So no matter who instigates, once you pay her you have broken the law.
Wrong. Read the law.

The cost for the RCMP to set up a sting operation would be enormous!!!! and when the public found out how much it cost they would freak. They don't have the money or the man power to do it. Shootings, murders, drug enforcement, all out of control, and much higher priority. Human trafficking, and children being forced into prostitution are a different story. If you are visiting any of the paid advertisers on here or 99% of the advertisers on any reputable site you won't have an issue. Can we let this go now?????

right here and now
Jesus this is pointless. READ THE FUCKING LAW.
Kudos to you WW for hanging in as long as you have.
As an observer to this thread- FFS already!- I'm with tadolder on this- "can we let this go now?????"!
And to you hooboy- either just drop a few beans and go fuck someone or stop the incessant trolling.
If you are really that paranoid or unsure or uncomfortable or WHATEVS- then paying for sex isn't the right thing for you.
Here's one for you- "How can you be sure you don't run down by a car?"
Simple- look both ways before you cross the street then proceed with caution.
Now if that same car sneaks up from behind when you aren't paying attention then what can you do?
There are no guarantees with ANYTHING my young friend.
OMFG.

Yes - mainly street workers. There have also been visits to some parlours. I also know of many providers where the police booked appointments with them, and then would show up with 6 uniformed cops. No arrests there - just doing wellness checks. Can you imagine opening the door in your sexy outfit and seeing 6 uniformed cops at your door? Areas I'm aware of are Cape Breton, Halifax, Saint John, Winnipeg, towns in Ontario. There are many posts detailing the arrests. All of the arrests involved clients soliciting an undercover cop. Or the parlours did not have proper licences and complaints from the public required them to get involved.

"Operation Northern Spotlight" if I recall correctly. I've posted a link to an article about it from the vice web site on one or two occasions. Technically, it was already in operation prior to the passing of C-36 but I seem to recall an article from the C-36 media thread that mentioned it as an ongoing operation since C-36 came into effect. So, despite the misinformation posted above by another member, there have indeed been co-coordinated cross Canada efforts by LE agencies to enforce these laws.

Edit: It's easily searchable and will lead to numerous articles -- many from October of 2015 with reports of rescues of trafficking victims and many arrests.

Sorry gang, this isn't legal aid. Hooboy has asked his question and it's been answered, both well and repeatedly. Time to close this up.
