Yes some times we are not smart enough to keep our smart phones /
A friend lost hers last night at a bar ..Problily stolen ,, bag and all

It is a small town in the middle of nowhere so it has not gone far .

Just wondering if bell can track there phones and how would a person access that ..

THere is a an app that allow people to track someones phone .. but the phone user has to activat it and there allowed friends can track through face book or some thing like that ....

I know not much can be done if it is turned off or out of power .. and what will the police do for a $500 phone

Depends on the phone and if you're "prepared" for it.

All my Androids have apps on them that allow for remote tracking. If you haven't done this beforehand, there's always this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lookout.labs.planb&hl=en
It's not as pretty as some of the preinstalled ones, but it works in a pinch.

If it's Apple, as long as the device hasn't disabled tracking you can also find it via https://icloud.com

The carrier won't do squat for you.

In Lust Mostly
I had a smartphone jacked in Ohare in Chicago. I knew it was gone as soon as I had checked in. i phoned my cell and the guy just laughed at me :pound:

I got into the departure lounge within five minutes and logged on to my providers site. There is a link on their site to "kill" your mobile in case its stolen.

Once you click on that link the phone becomes a brick and unusable to the thief. I never received any additional charges after that click.

If you keep any additional personal info like passwords or email info or nude pics of your fav SP :clap2::clap2:. Go on line and kill everything that you can to make the phone worthless to the thief.

Thankfully, nothing ever has come back to bite my ass since that theft.

The next phone I chose had several security features that would deter any thief. ie finger print recognition, numeric password code etc.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. GWB.

Not sure about iPhones and this is after the fact, but for Android phones I use a program called NQ Mobile Security
Blackberries will depend your carrier and\or whether you are connecting to a BES.
For laptops there is Lojack

THe comment that the carrier won't do squat . my be so true .. but they are very capable of tracing the phone at any time .. after all they know where we are at any given time . just for billing us for roaming and long distance and GPS always know where we are also.

It should be an automatic app for the user.

If they are privy to that info they would only release it to law enforcement. Unfortunatley I may say it is lost forever and when they purchase the next one, get insurance for the phone. All phones can be traced through their EMI number which is unique to each handset. Most companies will ask for the EMI# when registering the phone for new service.

I used the product to track my phone location .. But found it only showed the location of the cell tower and that i was with in 2250 m of that location .. not so good in one cell tower town..

My friends phone is turned off now .. so unless they try to charge it and turn it back on we won't find it.. But we will check fro few days ..
