Ummm....About 500 thousand.
I can sell off this place ,and my four legged assets...Dump my tractor in a ditch, and move to Mexico, Cuba or Belize.....But knowing myself, I'd just buy a ranch down there, date a slim waisted Seniorita with DD's and a bad attitude, drink to much Tequila ,and be in the same boat I am now....Without the -35 winters.
So about 500 thousand.

I've pondered this before and get stuck on the fact that a number of my friends are connected in some way to my profession. I'd find it difficult walking away from my friends.

Then again, I can visit them for coffee after a year or so of travel. I'd even buy the coffees :pound:

I voted for 10M but I have the feeling anything above 5M ought to do.

For one, I don't intend to move out of Canada. Sure, with 5M, you could move to, say, Vietnam or Costa Rica, and live like a king. But, I have been to those places and, while I did enjoy my stay there, I can't envision living there for the rest of my life. Short stay, sure; long stay, hell no.

For argument sake, if I had some of the jackpot, say, 5M, I will give some to my parents and siblings. Fuck the rest of the family. From there, some cash to some close friends, specially those with kids. Basically, put $$$ for their kids education. Why friends and not other relatives? Because you can choose your friends but you can't choose your family. (Hey, that goes both ways!).

From there, get two to three detached houses - one to live, the others for investment/rent out. Maybe also a condo or two in the interior. Kelowna would be nice. Depending on how much is left, maybe open a chain restaurant of sorts. Say, a Timmys or Starbucks. Sure, they are not the fanciest but, for the most part, they are stable compared to a venture with a celebrity chef. As for the rest, keep some liquid and invest the rest, hopefully, to live my life with having to go back to work 9-5. So, yeah, in general, keep a low profile.

Lol......we both seem of similar thoughts. I would add a few places in Asia and Africa as destinations. Half a million would suffice.

...^...I'm about to go for over a week in the bush to spend my days in a hard saddle, and my nights on frosty ground, with the same saddle as a pillow...But at least the horse generates some heat to keep my legs warm....So I have that going for me.

It's all just perspective, from your current view point.

My next truck is going to be white for sure...And with those stainless side tanks I could go further.
It just is pitiful to see a big cowboy weep ,when he puts his first dent in a truck like that...And it usually involves a cow or deer, distracted driving because of the boob bounce sitting next to him...And trying to navigate the annoying center console ..while receiving some hard earned road head.

I figure 2 mil would do to retire here.

Considerably less would be required elsewhere which is looking fairly attractive as I hit middle age and it keeps hitting back.

$2500 / month goes a long way in Mexico!

$10 million.
I wouldn't necessarily need the money for myself as I have no debts and I could retire right now very comfortably. The reason I haven't is my daughter is only in Grade 12 so another several years of post secondary education before she's on her own. She's finally decided she wants to be a C.A. Likely seen those huge cheques I send mine every year. LOL!
$10 mil would allow me to have a significant buffer against some kind of financial crisis or major illness, make sure my daughter was well set up, help out a few deserving friends and relatives and give some to my favorite charities. The rest could be used to boink every hot SP in North America and a few in Europe too.

I would have the money to seek therapy to get rid of the grass is greener elsewhere. There is always something better elsewhere as well as problems elsewhere. Its all in your head whether 2 million or 20 million is enough.

I have had this conversation recently, to be honest I would find any large sum of money a real annoyance actually,
I am no way perfect in any way but I like the life I made for myself,

My friends my hobbies my life style my family any big money would simply be a distraction, would get in the way actually, not for me.
