The thread about how SOME men treat SP's begets the bigger question of how we treat each other in general.
Why do some people empty their car ash trays on the street or parking lots and think it's okay?
Why do some people drop their garbage on public or even private property?
Why do some people have over-loud parties knowing they will disturb neighbours?
Why do some people block aisles in stores while they chat to someone?
Why do drivers run red lights?
Why do some people abuse animals?
Well, it all come down to selfishness and entitlement.If an SP is treated badly it ususally boils down to the customer wanting whatever he wants to satisfy his own needs and the SP is simply there for his use. The other examples I gave fit the same criteria. These people are self-absorbed bullies and psychopaths who are intent on their own gratification and they don't care how they achieve what they want or who they hurt.

I am not for abuse, but kids NEED to be taught that civilization requires some painful lessons and no means NO! and I'm willing to prove it.

This new-age crap has spawned people who really do NOT give a shit for anyone else and the more one person gets away with it the more others feel entitled to the same privileged behaviour.

The only joy about this is the parents who raised these holy terrors can spend the rest of their years cowering in terror from how their little 'spawn of satan' will treat them, and it won't be good. There are already lots of stories of elder abuse, and parents being robbed by their own kids, or being abandoned ... i've heard from nurses that every long weekend they get at least one SUV stop at emergency, kick grannie to the curb and drive off on vacation so they don't have to pay someone to care for her!

This 'civilization' will get what it deserves because this whole 'spare the rod, spare the child' BS is just going to become 'you reap what you sow!'

It's not like they don't know it's wrong, they just do it anyways.

The world we live in . I think that most people just get behind the mentality of "Well, it's just me..." or "Someone else will deal with it"

Not recycling and car idling is another set of peeves.

People just have no basic consideration for others and they hide behind that it is a bigger problem than just them.

That kind of mentality is why there aren't real differences being made to impact our manners etc... Makes it seem kind of hopeless doesn't it?

I have come to believe there are two types of rude people.

One is the deliberately rude person. They are rude because they have had a bad day, recently encountered rude behaviour from another, feel slighted, or any number of other causes.

Second is the oblivious rude person. No one else matters, because they are the only person who counts. Only their feelings are worth considering. Only their time is important. Showing up late for an flight is never a problem for them, they just push their way to the front of the line, ahead of the people that showed up on time. When a new register opens at a crowded supermarket and they are at the back of the line, they quickly become the first person at the new register. When you yeild to let them enter a busy highway, they wont let you back into the right hand lane, because they are too busy trying to pass you on the right. When there is a line of cars 10 deep trying to leave a parking lot and they are holding everyone up because they want to turn left onto a busy street, no problem, everyone else can wait rather than having them go one block out of their way. There is no ill intent on their side, they are simply oblivious.

I'll take the deliberate jerk any time. If you can solve their problem, or remind them that we all have our problems, they are usually capable of reform and even contrition.

Type 2 will simply go through life shitting on everyone else. Any suggestion that they are being rude is simply met with a vacuous gape and bewildered look.

Parents are the biggest influence and whether they like it or not, they are the ones to blame.

I did read somewhere that 90% of behavior is learned. Although the environmental factor is a good facilitator as well for the growth of bad manners and disrespect.
