Try doing a search on MLS.

http://www.mls.ca/map.aspx

There's an interactive map that shows you different geographical locations. Once you narrow down where you'd like to locate, you can choose an option for how much you'd like to spend on rent, instead of the option for how much you like to spend on a purchase.

Hope that helps.

BTW,if you are looking for a house or apartment to rent, right now is the best time to look at the local community newspaper, Province or Vancouver Sun.

Usually landlords post their ads at the end of the month as their tenants have to give them at least a month notice. If there are some vacance ads after the first week of the month, usually those accomodation are a little bit sub-standard. Most of the good one will be gone within the 1st week of the month.

You better move fast as many people are returning from holidays. In a way you will have a good fight with lots of college students or other newcomers to town! Good luck!
