I don't know if it just me but.....I have just walked when I arrived a SP home and you felt you should leave your shoes on because you didn't want your socks to get dirty. Perhaps you have brought something
to drink and were expected to drink it from a green plastic tumbler, recently rinsed and dirty clothes had to be removed from the bed so there was somewhere to play.
My pet peeve is when I am required to hang my clothes up on a pile of dirty laundry or on the floor,
I don't do that any more.....I WALK
