are there any hotels/motels, preferably a hotel, that don't require a credit card to book a room. I'm planning not to make a reservation, but walk-in reservation.

I worked for a hotel back in the day, and we didn't require credit cards if you wanted to leave a deposit. I would imagine a few of the mid tier ones would still do the same. (Re: try the two Delta hotels)

Barring that, Go and get a pay as you go visa. No names on them, you put an amount on them and go, just like a regular visa. West Ed uses them as gift certificates, they would work for you.

travelodge west end not the nicest but definetly no card required at least was that way a few months back. i believe the best western across the street as well. good luck!

Not at a nice hotel

I'm a manager at a great hotel in the west end and we have a "hell no" policy on cash deposits or pay as you go visas. No credit card, no room. The way around it is leave your credit card number to guarantee the room and inform the guest service agent that under no circumstances do you want an charges to go through on the pre-authorization. They can pre-auth the card and it will expire after 7 days without any trace on your statement. Then pay them cash for the room night upon checkout. Done deal. No trace.

You are absolutely correct. I spend a lot of time in hotels and renting cars, everytime you go to settle up they ask if you want to use the card on file to settle up the bill. It makes absolute sense for them to demand a credit card as this is the only recourse they would have in case the person renting the room absolutely trashes it.
