I just emailed charlieboy and got a reply. I check her ip address and it came up as 24.66.94.141

I've got a semi serious question though. If you were a crazy person and you happened to know someones name and password couldn't you log in to perb as that other person from a different computer and also log in under another name and get that person banned?

Exactly so if I knew Avery's password and logged in as him and registered a new name for myself I could get Avery banned.

Coming from the IT world, this is secure. No worries guys. They just know the IP address, not where it is coming from, nor the company you use for e-mail or internet.
Every time you send an email or are on a web site you send your IP address out to the world.
Saying that, there are firewalls to stop that to protect you from hackers.

Well I have to say we all at times disbuted the loons posts, yet she got away with 5 different handles. Why is it winnipeghotie and charlie boy are being banned,,I know for a fact they are two different persons,,,I can tell you when I read that post from babygotback I and a fellow sp were reading it and we both agreed that that it had the loons name written all over it,, I personally was very embarressed about that post. Immediately I thought for sure every one was going to jump all over it,, it took awhile and then all hell broke loose. I have known kwk for quit sometime if I knew, when he asked if he could post something ,,,with everything that has gone on in this thread I may have considered saying no! Nothing personal kwk. I met what I said in my post...
I as well let a fellow sp use my computer to register,,May I ask the mod's , does this mean banning for me too, due to the ip address?????

Mandy & Kerry warning

With all the banning shit hitting the fan this should be a warning to some of the ladies that are known to share computers.
I know Mandy & Kerry (probably more) share an incall apartment in the city and also share the same computer with each having their own handles.
If Mandy was to make a post and then logout and Kerry should happen to come along and make a post, opps BANNED!

This is just rediculous... banning Charlieboy this way was totally un-called for. She wasn't making trouble, and anyone with half a brain could see she was a different person than wpghottie or chantal. She could actually make a complete sentence using english spelling and grammar skills.

Fredrikk, I think you need a little more seasoning as a mod and a little more knowledge as an internet geek before you start banning everyone from the board. I wouldn't blame charlieboy if she never comes back. But she will be missed. I've never seen her, nor do I intend to, she's not my type, but her posts were informative, interesting and insightful. Something we should protect, not ban.

Soo, I log on from several different computers in several different cities, does that make me several different users with on id?

IP's don't lie guys.... No matter what, if in fact the IP addresses were the same then those users where using the same computer. They may have been different people but the same stationary computer.
If you have a laptop and you using it in a hotel, house or airport for example then you will have different IP's but not from a stationary home computer.
My point is that this is no fluke. Those users were from the same computer. Experienced or not Fredrikk is correct.

IPs DO lie.

24.66.94.144 is a shaw server. Probably a squid server of some sort.

24.66.94.144 is NOT the IP address of any single user out there. When people connect to shaw, they are automatically directed through an invisible proxy. In this case, it is 24.66.94.144.

Try a telnet to that IP address on different TCP ports and you will see that there are various services running on there already. These are services that are not likely to be found on a home computer.

I've PM'ed fredrikk about this, but have not received a reply as of yet.

Almost everyone on Shaw will at one point in time have their IP address show as 24.66.94.144, because that's a proxy server that serves hundreds of people in Winnipeg.

Obviously, the people that are saying that IPs are indisputable proof definitely need more experience.

Fredrikk was mistaken. Perb picked up the wrong IP address because they were set up to use a proxy.
