The Oilers have aquired the services of Chris Pronger. If your an Edmonton fan you must have a grin ear to ear.

Mean while out west. (further west) Word is Naslund is looking to sign with Vancouver. Which means IMHO Bertuzzi (after timed served) could be back as well.

Wow

When I read this (thanks for the scoop, Kev) I had the same "this is a joke" feeling I got when I Gretzky was traded. But this time it's a good feeling. I got the feeling the Edmonton papers were ready to carve Kevin Lowe for not doing anything while Calgary loaded up.

Minor quibble, but by giving up Brewer and Woywitka, the Oil give up a significant part of their present and future defence. I would much rather they parted with Jason Smith and Steve Staios for say, Doug Weight, but oh well.

On the bright side, this is one of the first trades we've had in a while where we're talking just about the players, instead of looking at how much $$$ the Oilers have dumped. That's a good sign for the new look NHL. :)

Its a great sign threepeat that Edmonton can aquire Pronger. Chris Pronger is one of the backbone defensemen of Canada's national team, and hes playing in Edmonton.

And Edmonton has the cash to pay him. Maybe it was worth the wait with this new CBA. Those teams in the past who couldn't pay, now can. And thats positive.

In due course we'll see what other acquisitions Edmonton, Calgary, and Vancouver will make in building teams that will kick the crap out of those other teams out East...............like Toronto, Montreal for starters.

your mom says hi.
it will be cool to see canadian clubs actually have a chance in the playoffs besides toronto although i am a leafs fan. great to see these changes. hopefully we will never have to witness another playoff game in either south carolina, florida, or arizona ever again.

this may also pave the way for expansion back into winnipeg and maybe quebec city. i miss the old battle of quebec games, scrapping every two minutes.

Now that we have Pronger in Edmonton, look for the Oilers to sign a sniper very soon. Too bad Calgary got their hands on Tony Amonte. Amonte would of been a good fit for Edmonton.
Edmonton office is on top of things the way they handle things in the past before the new CBA was quite impressive. Would Amonte be a good fit in Edmonton? That won't be clear until the dust settles................sometime in late September.

You want a sniper? There still are many who have not signed.

I was hoping to see someone like Kariya or Demitra in Oil colors. But if Peca can rack up the numbers on a more free-wheeling team (which he couldn't do in a more defense-oriented Eastern Conference), he will be a good fit. Pronger is the first truly Norris-calibre defensemen they've had since Paul Coffey, so this was a long time coming - just hope he'll be worth the 6 million per year. And in making these deals, I'm glad they're clearing away deadwood like Isbister and York. Now they just have to get Ryan Smyth and the other RFAs signed up and they should be good to go. Some are questioning the goaltending, so hopefully Ty Conklin and Jussi Markkanen will kick it up a few notches.

Except for exception of resigning Naslund, what movements have the Canucks made in the way of new players? I'm drawing a blank??
Nikolai Khabibulin would have been a great fit for the Canucks, but

News Update...."Nikolai Khabibulin has flown the coop in Tampa Bay and is heading north to Chicago after the Blackhawks signed him on Friday."

change of plans...... Kariya is gone to Nashville
Damn it!
Apparently K-Lowe is interested in Eric Lindros...but that would mean acquiring damaged goods who is one concussion away from becoming a vegetable. Not to mention having to deal with his insane parents as negotiators.
