I can usually tell when people have been tested before too Sonoman. They don't know the rigorous protocol that goes on when you do come in for the test.
Uhh it wasnt all that rigorous for me, was like a year ago but I just said I wanted to get tested and I bang escorts, they took some blood and mailed me back.

I should prob go back and get it done again soon.

Both times I had the HIV test done the questioning was not rigorous. The questioning is rather similar to a standard std test. The only difference is that in an HIV test they ask you about your support network. Specifically, if your test results do come back positive, do you have anyone in your life who you can go to.

For my last HIV test the questioning was not very rigourous either. A couple of questions ( about homosexual sex or sex workers contact) and they took the blood and scheduled me for the results appointment.

My first HIV test at my regular clinic involved very rigorous questioning...
Subsequent tests have not included the same questioning
maybe because they are familiar with my history there

Wrap it up!

I gotta hand it to GBM for he said it best on this thread. Regardless of whether "poorman" is telling the truth or not doesn't excuse the fact that the threat of HIV (and STI) transmission and contraction is ever present, so really we can quit questioning "poorman" and attempt to force out his motive for posting. And in the meantime, boys and girls wrap it up.

Ladies: Do you know your clients medical history?

Fellas: Do you know the medical histories of the SPs/SWs clients?

Oh yeah to answer the question if I would engage in FS with someone who has just revealed to me that they are HIV+. The answer is "no" I wouldn't but just how is it that we can guarantee that a client is or isn't + by asking?

^ In that case, the nurse called in a doctor to examine it. They didn't really know what was the cause behind the leakage. They gave me some antibiotics for it but they dont' know if it's a std for sure.

For my regular testing, I go to the Vancouver CDC clinic on 12th between Cambie and Oak. Contagious diseases is all they do, with a strong emphasis on STDs. Not to judge other clinics of which I have no experience, but these folks are without question professionals in the field.

When it comes to HIV and HEP-C, if you think about it, you are more likely to catch them by giving an infected female 'digits' than by having BBFS with her.

Of course, I'm NOT saying that BBFS with an infected female is safe (Of COURSE it isn't, it's VERY RISKY and a really dumb idea). But, bbdigits is risky too.
Ummm... not necessarily. More than one doctor has told me that HIV transmission occurs through trauma; your (bare) penis thrusting in and out of a vagina, in general, is likely to suffer more trauma than a finger would.

I'm not a doctor for christ's sake; anybody's who's unsure should always speak to one regardless.

"Wowzers"!

To quote Inspector Gadgit!

This has certainly turned into an interesting thread.

I read where people said they have not recieved stringant questioning from their health care provider but I believe that is because, as crazy as it is, we still have a stigma that all sps MUST have a higher risk than those dudes that go to the bar and bang the drunk chicks without condoms or something. That would be my uneducated guess.

If there is anything really positive that I believe has come out of this thread, I think it is just an awareness that indeed there is a threat of HIV and that we do need to be on top of our safety and testing.

Best of luck Poorman!

there is a lot of stigma attached to sex and sexuality at the best
of times ... more on women than men ... and a lot more on women
in the sex trade.

which is unfortunate ... but this is not the time and place
for this discussion:

I too hope that Poorman gets things straightened out and
gets good news for once and hopefully some help through
this difficult time.

Just thought I'd point out that while both are very unlikely, a false negative is slightly more common than a false positive.

So, if you want to be really sure, best to go for 2 out of 3.
There's any number of other indicators of HIV, in addition to antibodies, that might be revealed by general blood tests (sediment rate, etc).

Yes, test at least two more times.
Perhaps, go to two clinics, and test one time at each.
Why? All the blood taken goes to the same provincial labs anyway.

Good to hear your news poorman.

So, you're saying we should have manditory testing, right?

Also, keep in mind that what I said was 'on their genitals' not 'on their forehead'.

So, forget the 'but it would cause bias against them at job interviews' argument unless you can explain why they whip it out at a job interview...

So, does a person's 'right' to keep their HIV status private over-ride the right of the people they sleep with to know their status?

Is THAT your argument?

maybe not an interview, but it would sure be a good way to clear a public shower (filled with hiv paranoid people). It would be a quick way to stop said hiv person from being nakey in public ever again, for any reason. on the other hand, if everyone with hiv was tatooed, and all were seen to be so publicly, I wonder if it would change our awareness and opinions of it in a more positive way as well, the same way the "outing" of homosexuality as prolific (ya that's an ironc word to use) has helped in some ways to understand and dispel ignorant fears about it.

It comes with lots of turmoil too, and takes brave souls to do be out about it. But I think if I had it, I would make it my mission to show it, talk about it, and try and help things. I suppose I will anywho, but from this side of the fence, there is less insight/impact to be had. Would never trade it though!

I remember magic johnson was asked the same question after he tested positive and he said he still has sex with his wife. Only difference is his wife knows he's hiv positive.

I remember in college some guy coming around to talk to us about HIV/AIDS etc. Had alot of respect for the guy and what he'd been through until close to the end of his presentation when someone asked how life without sex was. His response was that he still has sex all the time, simply with a condom. Needless to say we were all kind of shocked. We asked him if he told his partners and he replied that no he didn't. His reply was something like "hey i want to get laid too and if i told someone i'd never get any". I honestly couldn't believe it but he was serious. Pretty much wrote him off as a guest speaker - he was never invited back again. It was pretty easy to figure out he was just a selfish @sshole and was pretty easy to figure out he contracted it in the first place by only thinking of himself with one head.

If you have HIV and tell someone and they chose to have sex with you anyway then good for you. But to not tell someone........ the chances are very slim of a condom failing, but they are still there. How could you live with yourself. It's like playing russian roulette, but your hold the gun to their head.

Is This Thread For Real?

My results came back negative. I might go back to pooning once I get back my life on track.

I think this thread was created just to see peoples reactions...this guy seems too stupid for words...

Gee...I got a positive result for HIV, and waited 5 to 6 months to post on perb and I've done nothing since...

Lots of responses...

Got retested and came back negative...I can breathe again, and all my delusional symptoms are gone...It's back to chasing SW and BBBJs for me!!!

Harsh Babe!

:p
Funny my experience has been different. Once my wife found out about my hobby she insisted I get tested, so I went to a walk in clinic and asked to be tested, and decided to get tested for other STD's at the same time. They didn't ask any questions, they just gave me a requisition to take to the lab, where a urine sample and blood were taken.

About a month later, not knowing what was going on, I called my doctor and she told me a copy of the results could be had by going to her office, which I did. Everything was negative, but at no point was there any enquiry about my activities.
Sorry that happened to you that way. But glad that you are all a-okay.

I think probably it depends on your doctor and also, when your doctor knows you are an SP, they sort of glom you into whatever their idea of an SP risk factor is.

For you personally, being married and just your appearance and age and stuff (not that you're old
:p )....but you wouldn't maybe have the same experience.

In this case...I think the guy was full of crap. Sorry to say it but I just calls it how I sees it:)

Glad he probably is HIV negative though. Too bad he had the time on his hand to start a bogus thread:confused:

Smooch to you though babe!

This thread is still alive?

I actually asked the health nurse for a hardcopy of the test results but the supervisor there wouldn't give it to me. Instead, they're gonna mail it directly to the student health services at UBC. I'm actually using the test results to ask for a retroactive withdrawal at UBC.

Hopefully, the dean there won't call me bogus too when they interview me.
