How much lying can people get away with ? I can't count how many people I have had to let go over the years in the trades because of it .

Anyone with good horror stories ? I'll jump in when I have a chance ....

I just need to vent and see what others might have experienced lately as we are all struggling with the hiring these days

Seems like Millenials want top dollar with the most minimal effort. They think sending emails is tough work

A good video about Millennials in the workplace. I don't agree with everything he says but he brings up some good points.

Ugh. And they think that watching a documentary is the same as research! And they're killing every industry that your grandfather used to be proud to say that he worked his way up from changing garbage bins at--diamonds and chain restaurants and real estate... And what happened to getting dressed?! These kids these days walk around downtown in broad daylight in yoga legs and sweater pants with what they'd call shirts but I think shirts are something you iron and hang up, not the crap they wear that are actually undershirts (look-up what teeshirts were before you punks were putting logos across the chest and wearing them to work: they're UNDERWEAR).

And no one has jobs anymore! They all have 'gigs.' They're all contractors and salesmen, taking the quick and easy instead of finding a good job and working there for thirty, forty, fifty years. I remember back in my day, we had some company loyalty! And we went to church! And the doctors smoked, and we grabbed the secretary's ass and no one wrote up a Medium post about it and crowdfunded for a lawsuit. We were respectful, honest, and we didn't runaround sayin' "gimme gimme gimme" everyday, even though inflation was just a theory at that point, wages were dependable, and you could buy your first house with ten years of your current salary from the job you got fresh out of highschool, with a wife at home who cooked and cleaned so that you didn't know or care if your oven was in Fahrenheit or Celsius.

Also, hiring managers are the unsung heroes of every company.

Not all millenials want top dollar for minimal effort. I work in trades and some of the new hires which are millenials have more work ethic in their pinky than some of the other pre-millenial workers which have worked for years.
But I've also seen the audacity of some millenials. With some saying dumb things like I'm going to focus on rapping while having no job, no money, and just scrounging the couch for pocket change to buy some weed.
Not all apples are bad, but some rot over time and some come rotten.

I'm even rolling my eyes at myself for being "that guy" but for anyone that cares, there are two N's in millennial. :) (And no I'm not one. I just remember this from a product that taught spelling that ironically spelled "Millennium Edition" wrong on its box.)

I once caught a guy who was using the company to pull credit card fraud on the customers. What he was doing was running the customer's card twice and then taking the second charge out of the till in cash. Most people don't check their credit card statement or don't bother to dispute a double $23.95 charge.

If the customer had done a charge back, then it would be coming out of the company's bank account, plus a penalty.

So on the surface...it looked OK. Total physical receipts = total sales recorded, according to the system. Something seemed fishy to me when his handwritten till report had corrections on it. Initially I couldn't figure it out then it dawned on me what he was doing.

Fired him the next day, but my boss decided not to call the RCMP since the employee in question had kids.

Following is from an actual cover letter received. Individual is on assistance and needed to demonstrate was looking for work.

To whom it may concern:

Please read this cover letter regarding my prospects for employment with your company as it outlines the basic financial necessities for a healthy future of working with your company. I would require a basic monthly allowance as well as a retirement allowance in order for work efforts to run smoothly. The monthly allowance will be spent as follows:

Rent........................................................................................$ 1200.00
Transportation........................................................................$ 1000.00
Food.......................................................................................$ 550.00
Internet/ Online education upgrades......................................$1000.00
Fitness....................................................................................$ 30.00
Entertainment.........................................................................$ 250.00

This is a total of $4030.00 per month minimum required for me to work with your company, including an initial Uber taxicab ride to work plus a registered retirement savings plan of $1,000,000.00 dollars with a monthly status indicating my retirement progress, subject to adjustments. If these requirements are financially possible for you please feel free to call me or Email me at the above locations to schedule an interview. Thank-you for your time and patience.

I especially miss the " we grabbed the secretary's ass " of the good old days :) If we get together Elsi, would you mind role playing my slutty secretary? I would start by grabbing your ass, but I cannot guarantee I would stop there lol.

I would only agree to that on the condition that you do not stop there. If I'm going to pull out the pencil skirt, I expect to get laid.

I read this and honestly think there is some merit to it. I have always believed even a basic full time job should pay enough to cover housing, food, transportation, necessities, some entertainment, and savings.
A basic job these days might cover rent and not much else. The system is broken.

The system can be harsh. The system can seem unfair, especially if someone has to drive 90 minutes each way to their job because they can only afford the rent in Chilliwack or they have to have 3 jobs and work 60 hours a week to pay the bills. But I would not say it is broken. A basic economics course will teach you that the system adapts as supply and demand change. When I see all the McDonalds and other fast food places shut down here on the North Shore where I live because they cannot find anyone to work their minimum wage jobs, then I will admit that the system has become broken. And it will also mean I will have to find other places to buy dinner ;-(

A bus pass is, what, like $150/month? That and he spends too much on food. On the other hand, if he's under 30, $1 million isn't a high enough goal for a retirement account.

Other than that it looks reasonable for a minimum income needed to survive in Vancouver.

If a person works a full time job and can't afford a roof over their heads and decent food......the system is broken.
If they can't spend their money intelligently, which is sometimes the case .. it's a different issue.

If that is the case, the system has always been broken, because, in every country in the world, since the beginning of time, there have been members of society that did not make enough money, despite working a full time job, to get a roof over their head and decent food. Now you can argue that the middle class is shrinking; that good paying permanent jobs are more difficult to find than x years ago; and on and on, but as you defined it, the system has always been broken for the people on the low end of the earnings spectrum. How did they get by? By living 6 to a bedroom and eating shit food. Or by working two normal jobs instead of one. Is it fair? Fuck no! But who ever said life is fair?

I am going to get as it stands now about 2,700 dollars a month ( US Dollars) from my pension and social security in about 16 year, as with a lot of Americans moving to a poorer country will most likely be my fate later.

You can barely live on 2,700 as it stand now.

My number # choice is Mexico, followed by nothing. The language is fairly easy to learn, close to USA, I think the women there make great partners, whats not to dislike?
