I noticed a comment regarding Hipsters in another thread and it didn't look too positive:
Personally I don't know much about them (I don't do things or go to places where I see too many Hipsters) but from what I have read online they do look a bit pretentious to me and at times are probably nothing but a bunch of wannabees.

But then again I am no expert on this matter. I'd appreciated if people could enlighten me on this matter?

Here's what I have found so far on the internet. Is this accurate?

too funny.
the portrait of the guys seems about right.
plaid shirt, beard, sleeve tatties and the obligatory toque (even in the fuckin heat of summer).
aren't hipsters just another reincarnation of Mods in the UK?

They may look like all the pics but no one has mentioned the B O.

I was on the Drive watching one of the World Cup matches and the B O smell really was over the top. It's almost like they wear it as a badge of honour.

Yikes

This is too funny! I have an ex like this. The hipster thing is so pretentious, but so common now. Almost every guy in downtown Victoria under 30 seems to be growing (or attempting to grow) massive beards, or dapper facial hair. Some guys suit it, but for the most part, I am so over this trend. Too many handsome faces covered up by wiry facial pubes. I will have a hard time not laughing when men start noticing the sheep-following-the-herd trend, shave their faces, and realize they're boyish looks were wasted behind a beard.

They always look like they just raided a Value Village and put everything on at the same time. I don't get it, but I don't care either.
That's apparently their point, too. They just are so cool that they have no fucks to give about how they look thrown together at Value Village. Even though it's all been thought through and perfected and probably cost more than $200 to look so thrown together :pound:

Rich kids trying to look poor and pretending to love indie bands. The complete antithesis of "keepin it real"

I totally agree! All these beautiful handsome faces, covered in beards. Makes me feel sad, actually. I have girlfriends who just LOVE a guy with a beard, though. So they are being encouraged...

Hipsters are sooooooo 2006. I can't believe this is still a thing.
that's only because Vancouver tend to be 7-10 years behind things that are trending.
So true! Walking down Main St. today is EXACTLY like being in Shoreditch/Brick Lane back in 2006. Seriously. Exactly the same trilby hats, plaid shirts, and "1850s Oil Baron" mustache, lol.
How is it that trends take so long to cross the Atlantic??
