I don't know what other cities forums are like, but I usually check out the Winnipeg forum and it seems that every thread is usually hijacked by the same few posters. Is this normal? A while back I commented that it seems that people with few posts are treated with suspicion when they post a review, or are called shills and generallly made to feel unwelcome. This doesn't always happen, but it does and I think it defeats the purpose of a forum. It seems that the Winnipeg board has it's share of self appointed mods and "respected" members. These people figure that if you've got a high post count, your opinion counts for more than someone with few posts. My problem with that was in how the post counts get so high. I believe it comes from them hijacking threads. Check out the Winnipeg section, you'll see what I mean. Just because a person doesn't post as much doesn't mean that their point of view is wrong. I don't live in Winnipeg,( it's the closest city to me), so I haven't seen many of the sp's so I can't post lot's of reviews. After I commented on this, boy the claws came out! Anyhow, I was wondering on what your opinion's are on the subject, and thanks for letting me rant for a bit.

BBS, I already said in that other thread that post count isn't all that important, unless a newbie is posting something that is difficult to believe, e.g. a shill review.

This kind of hijacking is entirely normal on all boards like this. Just check out TERB or MERB, and you'll see what I mean.

I have no issue with your small number of posts, but you seem to take this board WAY too seriously. Relax, and have fun!!

I lurked for at least a year before posting, there's probably lots of others who do the same, but when they come on and post there's comments like "Sniff sniff I smell a shill"...
C'mon, woody, that hasn't happened much at all. When it did, it was either because the newbie posted a glowing review, lacking in detail, of someone we'd never heard of, or of someone who'd previously had bad reviews.

Canbest was free of most of the friendly banter and silliness that sometimes goes on here, but the information there was still only as good as the reliability of the posters. The only way to establish reliability is to post information that others verify. It doesn't require a lot of posts ro do that, just good, reliable information in a few posts.

I'd have to agree with Avery here. There aren't too many instances of people being called shills, and where it has happened there has been some pretty good reasons. Hey, a little while ago a couple of long established members of PERB were chastised for overly promoting a couple of their favourite ladies.

Anyway, the thread that started all this for BBS wasn't even like that. A new guy to the board asked for info. on a sp and Avery suggested that he should have tried the search function before posting. If anyone hijacked the thread it was BBS who then came on attacking everyone for having attitude!!??? Go Figure

Anyway, just my $.02.

But in another thread you had this to say Avery, "You're the guy with seven posts and who doesn't yet know enough to check someone's post count before making a dumbass remark like that!

Jaman50 is well-known on TERB as well. He and I have very similar tastes in ladies and we share information.

Please do us all a favour and do your homework the next time you feel the urge to post." You also said this, " On the other hand, JoeBC2003 has only 4 posts, all on the same provider. A review from a better-known poster would be more credible."So much for post counts not meaning much. My point is that any information is worth something no matter how many posts the person has. People can make up their own minds on the validity of the posts they read and ultimately will use the information provided to either see an SP or not. Just because you have hundreds of posts doesn't mean your opinion counts and someone with only a few does not. That's what offended me. FYI, this is what originally got me going, "Originally posted by JustAGuy
The guys at this site truly crack me up. I love it when the self-appointed "respected members of perb" chastize some hapless newbie because he hasn't adhered to the rules. I have visions of all of you sitting at your keyboards, fingers just aching to type the word "SHILL". In Cream's case, the guy simply commented that he thought Jessica was terrific, then speculated that based on reviews he's seen of Sharla, a double would probably be a whole lot of fun. For this, he gets pilloried for not posting a review. What the hell is ANYONE going to say about Jessica that hasn't already been said many times before by others? Not to mention probably in a more eloquent way than most people are capable of doing. If you're presently hiding under your desk trying to avoid another broadside, Cream, take heart in the knowledge that it actually IS okay to express an opinion on here now and again. "
Avery, Phoenix, Tom25, you guys should lighten up, I'm the one saying that post counts shouldn't matter. Agree or disagree with me, but I'll continue to sift through the postings and make my own judgements. Thanks to all for contributing. I've gotten much valuable info from many on the board and in the end, that's what it's all about, isn't it?

Hijacked Post / Thread

BBS thanks for starting this thread. .....

MODS PLEASE TAKE HEED

I posted a review of CJ in Calgary section a while ago. This thread has now "Ballooned" to 81 posts on 6 pages. The content of most of this is chitchat of “Non-Review” comments.

Now while I can understand that MODS may desire to limit threads on a given topic … I must say that to wade through an ocean of gobble-de-goop to get the essence of a set of reviews is a great waste of time.

Suggestion to all Review threads should be just that and ONLY that … ie Review.

Some here seeem to lack the ability to click on the New Topic button … and start a subject … rather they choose the “Thread Pollution” approach.

Just my 2 cents …

The Winnipeg bunch comes through again! Check out the thread about male escorts that Calgary-Terri started. You'll see what I mean about things getting out of hand there. Pretty ridiculous nonsense going on there.

You want to see hijacked threads, check out the Edmonton forum as of late.
Mind you, I've been guilty of that on occasion too, so I'm full of boiling water.

I found these posts and found them somewhat ironic and figured I'd share them.

You are right Restless, these are the types of posts you are complaining about, but they are in the general discussion section ... which is where they should be.

Too many threads in the review sections are being started that aren't reviews at all and too many other threads that start out as reviews are getting taken over by inane posts. I totally agree with you, if a person doesn't have something of substance to add, they shouldn't hit the reply button.

Restless, I know who/what your taking about and they are made in the review section. It's unforunate, but the Winnipeg review section has become a general discussion section for the Winnipeg people. It can easily start as a review and turn into a general discussion but I think we could all become more aware that if the post does not directly involve a review than we should try and stick to the general discussion area.

Hi Phoenix,

I agree. The winnipeg people have tended to use our forum for both SP reviews and general discussion. I know that I tend not to look very often in General Discussion as it seems to be primarily oriented towards Edmonton and Calgary perbites.

and I also don't think that generally this has been a problem. Most people keep a respectful balance between sp reviews and more general interjections. I always find your interventions to be informative and helpful, and the jokes and photos usually tend to relate to the subject matter of the thread. And they always leave me totally cracked up!

The Winnipeg section seems to have grown recently, and there now seem to be fewer SP reviews and more threads that start with "don't you hate it when" or "what do you think about" or "has this ever happened to you". I agree that its time we tried to make more use of the General Discussion forum. IMHO
