I've been driving 35 plus years and have 3 speeding tickets all in Washington State. First one was just driving down I-5 around 75 mph in a 60 zone and got caught by radar.

Second was in my mustang convertible again by radar, was going 55 mph in a 35 when I seen a motorcycle cop with radar, got on the brakes so hard his radar wouldn't lock on till I was down to 39 mph and he gave me the ticket for 4 mph over.

Last one was for 55 in a 35 zone, It was at night and I pulled over and waited for him to catch up. When he walked up to my vehicle I interupted him and told him I had a loaded handgun between my seats in a case. He said thank you and asked for all my paperwork. Went back to his car to check me out driving record wise and gets on the loud hailer and asks me to get out of my vehicle. I got out asked if there was a problem and he said no, just want to separate you from your gun. I told him I understood and he said I want to go home at the end of shift safe. He thanked me for telling him about the firearm and gave me a ticket for 38 in a 35 and cost me $27.00, the 55 in a 35 was good for $280.00. The officer said it was nice to see people who still treat the police with respect and to have a safe drive. He told me he had a quota of tickets to write but didn't say that they needed to be written for full amount and that it was his decision who got a brake by the way he was treated.

It pays to be respectful and to treat police officers the way you would like to be treated.

I think I have some sort of "Spidey Sense" I avoided another today on Boundary just before Marine Way. Cop was hidden to the south of the pedestrian overpass. Something got my foot on the brake before his radar could paint me.

Last speeding ticket I got was years ago when driving a lady home. Let's just say I was distracted, because I had my arm around her and my hand on her breast. When the cop got up to the car, she was still adjusting her clothing.

It pays to be respectful to everybody you meet and deal with whether there police or a homeless person.

I've only gotten one ticket so far but not for speeding. I usually only drive 10km over the posted speed limit. I don't understand why some people drive like it was a F1 race. It's not good for your car or the environment. I'll probably see you waiting at the exact same light as me.

I have a buddy who is a traffic court lawyer. His advice: "always dispute your ticket." The cop is required to show up in court to present evidence and they are often unable to attend. Even if they do show up, they can still drop charges or reduce the fine. It's worth your time to go to court. I have been caught speeding quite a few times but have rarely paid a fine.

right behind you!
In my younger days.,... If they had the laws they have now, I would have been put in jail.... .... I can not tell you how many tickets I have had, but let's just say I used to drive all over Canada and have received some in most provinces, and quite a few US states.... now as to budget, lets just say it would be a weekly rater for zsure!!

I counted 13 VPD between 13th and 70th on Granville St last week. All hiding in bushes with radar guns and jumping out in traffic to nab the speeders. I felt like let it rip that day but never got out of 3rd gear sadly. Upside is I didn't get a $147 ticket and 3 points.

I've had 3 so far, and for the last 12-13 years with driving being a large part of work day in and out driving around and over 100,000 kms a year you develop a sense of where the cops are waiting with their hairdryers, and also seeing where they like to set up...like at the bottom of Boundary, over past Marine and Elliot, bottom of the hill at Knight st Bridge....etc. Speed isn't bad, it's the distracted driving morons not just texting, but fiddling around with everything but driving.

Follow the rules you learned and had to know and demonstrate in order to pass your driver's test. Pay attention to what your driving, surroundings and conditions are around you, check your mirrors regularly, SIGNAL before you get to your turn, whether left or right. changing lanes...and get out of the passing/left lane if there's several cars behind you while on the freeway.

Don't be an obstruction, play the traffic cop, or whatever selfcentred crap. It's dangerous, impedes traffic and the speed differential is a huge factor. If you're in the 'fast' lane, and you're only going the speed limit, while most of the traffic in that lane is going more than that, usually 10-20 km faster than you, some even faster...if they have to do an evasive manuoever around your slow ass, have to hit the brakes suddenly so the people who are following him have to hit their brakes...and so on...causes accidents, backs up the flow of traffic...just because you're being all self righteous.

One more thing, fellow pooners and lovely ladies....if you're going slower, and being passed....for god's sake don't speed up and try to block them from getting ahead of you. What if you get into an accident with that person. How would you explain that to that person....'oh, sorry, I saw you pass me so I sped up to deny you a safe space to move into because I'm a selfish bastard/twat/etc."

I could go on and on and on. Give space, don't obstruct and pay attention. It's a big, heavy weapon, and can cause a lot of damage. Every morning I hear of the radio ' rear ender on the Alex Fraser by the Nordel onramp...and I can see why. Lots of stupid out there. More than enough, so let's not add to it. From a professional driver who just wants to get home safe at the end of the day.

In 35 years of driving....

I had about 6 tickets from when I was 16 -22. I've had maybe about 4 since then. Never used a radar detector. The times I got caught were 1) I wasn't paying attention the cop's hiding spot, or b) they were hidden very well. When i'm in an area I don't know well, I usually let other speeders be the bait.
