basically a bunch of my friends and some strangers are getting together for a social this sunday. We have decided to each buy a gift and sort of swap it during the social (sort of in the spirit of valentine). we set the limit at $10-20. I thought i ask perb members for some advice. I was thinking maybe chocolates and a single rose for the girl or maybe a romantic book. But that might be too predictable as i believe most people are going with the chocolate. Any suggestions (please be specific)?? I'll probably go shopping tomorrow or maybe even sunday morning. I prefer getting it near metrotown mall, but would go anywhere.

i'll check back tomorrow, and thanks

1) Go to somewhere like Claire's and get a tiara - every girl needs to have one of those ;)

2) Find one of those "Buddha Boards" - http://www.buddhaboard.com - the smaller ones should be around $20.

3) A candy bouquet: http://www.candybouquet.com

4) Make up a "stocking" taking inspiration from Christmas, but use pantyhose instead - find those "baskets" at Wal-mart or similar store that have a bunch of things shrink-wrapped in one container, take it apart, indivitually wrap each one an put each thing down the legs or the pantyhose. You might want to try and find some "stay up" types - that way you can use one let - see if you can get some for around $4 (Superstore usually has a good price on them - otherwise, you'll be paying $6 to $8 a pair) - roll up the other one as part of the gift and put it inside.

5) Search online for "love spells" and proceed to find the "ingredients" for a "spell" and write out the instructions and find all the ingredients to give in a nice box.

6) Put together an "evening for yourself" box with some of the following: a champagne flute (dollar store...), sparkling apple juice, scented tea lights, plush slippers/booties, relaxing CD, eye pillow, soothing leg/foot cream

If I think of more, I'll come back ;)

Those are all good ideas. For the stocking stuffer, if you wanted something girly and fun, you could get some fun socks with red hearts on them. Or if you wanted something more classy and conservative, a basket would be great. You could put into it a little thing of bubble bath, a nice cd (consider getting a jazz compilation or Tony Bennet or something like that), a few chocolates or candies. Also, if you want to add something frivolous, go to a toy or dollar store and get one of those pens that have lots of feathery pink decorations on them. They're really cute. its really along the same lines as the tiara idea, because its like she's a princess, but you could add it to the other things in the basket. If you put together some things like that I think it will make a good impression because its fun but thoughtful too.

one more thing

If you want to keep it simple, you could put the stuff in a really nice little Valentine's Day gift bag. That would look really nice and fun, too.

thanks for all the help. i am going to make a couple of cards that all starts with "for times when you....", and when she reads them out, i'll present her with a particular item. something along the lines of "for times when you seek to fill you soul" (give her a box of chocolate). and so on.

I am doing the stocking thing, with chocolates, a tiara (or the feather pen) idea (along the princess line), a single rose, champagne bubbles, a music cd (jazzy, maybe bennet). and maybe something else that comes to mind.

thanks again for giving me something to work with.
