I am ready to kill my self. Well maybe not quite that serious but close.

I decided to upgrade my computer and operating sustem. I was running Win 98 needed more memory (so they tell me) a bigger hard drive and a faster P4.

My IT guy retired effective 12.31.04, but he was also a close friend. Talked to him about an upgrade and he said that he had enough stuff on hand that he could and would make one for me. He is the one that has made all of my past machines and I have never had a problem. He also said that he had Windows 2000 pro, that he had purchased and not used along with Office 2000.

I took my old machine to him and we transfered all the programs and data to the new HD. Ran it at his location and it was great. Couldn't believe how much faster it was.

Got it home, hooked everything up and it semed alright. Next morning it ran so slow I couldn't believe it. Called my ISP (verizon) and their engineering folks said that there was a lot of output while I was talking to them, but had not tried to send or receive anything for over 10 minutes. They turned me over to MS Safety/Security office (In Eastern Canada) who had me load a beta version of a spyware remover and go to AVG anti virus program. Found and removed 74 viruses. Even after that, still didn't work right.

Ended up going back to my IT guy and we installed a virgin 80 gig HD. Reloaded and every thing was great.

Alas, after 4 hours connected to the web, machine is worse than ever. This morning it to over 20 minutes for my home page to load. Try to print and it reboots, etc.

Any ideas????????????????????????????????/

in case you are wondering how bad it can get ... new install of zone alarm firewall at Christmas ... since then:

361 intrusions blocked
106 were high rated
2232 access attempts were blocked

if you don't have a firewall, go to www.zonealarm.com and get a free copy ...

ps: the free copy is hard to find but it is there!

need to click on 'download and buy'
then on 'zonealarm' (this is the only one that comes free)
and then on 'free download'

Windows 2000 is lame. Bail on it and get XP. Wipe the drive clean and do a fresh install. If you buy XP chances are it will come with SP2 built in. My downloaded version did. :p

Do this:

Unplug internet.
Install windows.
Install motherboard drivers
Install SP 2 (if your version of windows didn't come with it)
Install video drivers.
Install antivirus.

Doesn't really matter what order you do these as long as they all get in there.

And last but not leat, re-connect to the internet and go get the other hundred updates off the MS site. Double check before you connect that SP2 turned on the windows firewall.

Needless to say you may need to goto another computer and download a few things to get ready to do a re-install of windows.

PS: If there's birds in the freakin meadow shoot 'em with your new BB gun!! or throw yer piece-0-shit computer at 'em. :D

Well everybody I am up and running again. Brand new 80G hard drive, CA Fire wall, Anti Virus, Anti Popup, anti Spy ware.

Since I conected to the web, it has been hard to do anything as I keep being informed about everthing trying to attack my computer. When I first connected, about every 30 seconds.

Don't those ass holes have anything else to do?????????????

Get a router.

Spend $40 or $50 on a router. It will block all incoming shit, except emails. Then get an Anti-Virus and make sure it is set up to (a) update daily and (b) scan your emails.

Oh, and if a website says "install this program/whatever for free porn" don't do it.
Get your porn at www.thehun.net

Why attack an APPLE of one....................when you can attack a Microsoft of millions.

Mac nuts need a serious body slam.

Virus insurgents don't attack Mac the same reason why Al Queda insurgents don't attack Guam. What would be the point? --- Kev

Truly you best first line of defense is a router. It turns your ip Address into an IP address behind an IP address. Lonely Ghost mentioned that he has had 2200 blocked intrusions since Christmas. I have had (since before christmas when I got my new machine)... a whopping 0 intrusions. Also load/run a couple spyware programs (i.e. ad-aware, spybot, etc...) some spyware will eat up bandwidth.

Hope that helps

funny thing about virieses..

Yes I know they are out there and I have got a few hundred myself..... I am running ME which is a shitty prorame i am told ...and it used to freeze up when i first got it 4 yrs ago .....so it still freezes up today and some times run slow ......and right in the middle of writing some thing on perbs it locks up ..but it is only a fucking cumputer ....NOT MY LIFE.

I dont keep any thing realy important on it ......any porn ...I loss it , so what the web is full of more ,. any faves. ...I have had a few hundred ...and then there were more... and if I realy can't live with out it I know where to find it .

As for the few site and info. i need ..I write it down ( now only if I could read my own spelling)

I have tried those spy bots ,and ad blockers ..and the simple one work fine .....but all that crap that is always asking you ..want this ..or want that .... Or the progames that keep tooting there own horn every time they block something ..They slow my cumputer down to a crawl.

Is funny that most of the new viries are made for XP and meny of the old viries have bee filltered out by alll the ant viries on all the sites

YES I AM IN fected ...BUt untill the anti viries people stop makeing virieses what is the use of buying there protection( think about it)

One good thing is we don't need a cumputer to fuck.( but you can get fuck by a cumputer
