Also Posted in Edmonton section.....

Ok, so I have been a PERB member for 5+ years, but keep a very low online profile. This is my first post ever…so figure how seriously I am taking this.

I’m hoping that there may be an IT expert out in PERBert land that may offer up an idea or two, but I suspect I am out of luck in any case.

So… this morning I respond to a craigslist add on a bit of a whim….looked good…but not much info. http://edmonton.en.craigslist.ca/ers/1360889113.html

Get a response and she (assuming it’s a she) adds me to MSN chat. One or two brief exchanges…. She wants prepayment via Interact because “too many guys not showing up or not bringing enough money”. Ok….I have been around for a while….don’t see this happening any time soon. Not giving banking info of any kind. Well “she” gets a little upset…. I sent you pictures and you are not going to book. She then says we have a problem here. “She” then proceeds to say “Well I am going to log you out now!” at which point my MSN Messenger closes! I’m like what the….! I try logging in again and it says that I am already logged in….nope not me. Try again and then it says password is not recognized!! This all happens in the order of 2 or 3 minutes. I’ve never even heard of this happening before or that it was even possible.

I happened to be chatting with another person at the same time who I knew quite well. Well this craigslist person has now hijacked the conversation with my other friend… I get a text message from my friend….they were immediately aware it was not me. But here is the person from craigslist conversing with my friend using my account telling my friend that I had better email them with some money or I am in deep SHIT! WTF! They obviously have access to all of my email and account information….they have changed my password and login information, etc. Telling my friend things I know that even my friend don’t know. Nothing super sensitive on the account, but could be rather embarrassing with some friends. I do have some information from other SP’s that I have contacted in the past…probably a few phone numbers and such. But what a piss-off.

Is there anything I can do? The craigslist person originally contacted me using email Jolene_peterson@live.com and is trying to blackmail me, for lack of a better term. So watch out guys. If anyone has any suggestions I’d appreciate a PM.

ok, you need to clean off your computer ASAP.

one of the photos that they sent you was loaded with a virus that is keylogging you and sending your passwords and other information to them.

Whatever you do, don't log into your bank account or something.

Next time be more careful, have an anti-malware program running and scan any download before clicking on it.

and, stay away from CL (duh)

Hopefully Perb has a password reset feature too, since his account has probably been hacked here too. ;)

When will Perberts learn to avoid Craigslist like I avoid vegetarian donairs?!
If you value your life, your money, and your mental well-being, then stay away from Craigslist.
Don't say I never offered any helpful advice.
Hey Spermie,

I'm not trying to be an asshole or sound like an idiot but is CL not safe provided you have proper protection running on your PC. I'm not talking about some of the ads that ask you to sign up for websites, etc but more referring to just looking at the various ads.

Is this not also another reason to have several email/hotmail accounts? I have one that I use for pooning only. I don't have any other contacts on there.

Anyway please let me know what my risks are b/c you scared the shit outta me.

Just play it safe and DO NOT book with any escort who advertises her services on CL.
I don't agree that you have to avoid all cl advertisers.
Chatting is probably always an indication of a scam. Professionals do not use chat as a general rule.
I use CL for finding the odd date. I never respond to any of the ads that ask you to find them on aim or live or msn chat.
There are a lot of reputable SP's that advert on CL. I've seen many here post ads there. I'm sure the traffic on CL is substantially greater then they get here or on any other industry advertising site.

EXACTLY, Thank you

CL is perfectly safe to browse, and I have found a few gems on there as well as the scammers, I've also been left feeling ripped by some legitimate MP's and GS ads in the past.
I generally try and find a review on any girl I plan to see these days. If you are TOFTT, rule of thumb be careful.
If your computer gets jacked or something fishy disconnect from the internet till you fix it.
Finally somebody with a brain ;)

I advertise on craigslist too, does it make me a rip off ???? :(

The same amount of guys that book thru any other advertising medium, get ripped off as well. Craigslist just happens to be the popular flavor of day. Some of my best clients have come from Craigslist because MOST men do not know about these review boards. And any woman in business would be silly not to take advantage of free advertising, in a field such as ours.

Furthermore, any guy that sees a girl, without doing some research; a girl that doesn't have a number posted, a website and/or reviews is asking for it , no matter the source he found the girl thru be it newspapers or internet.

It is quite obvious apologies are worth shit on Perb.

I've apologized and admitted my ignorance and hasty generalization. What more do you want from me?
You lost that basic human consideration, civilized people extend to one another in a healthy society, when you posted that picture of a roasted dog being BBQ'd for human consumption.

Darwinism at its finest.

I think eating a dog is the same as eating a pig, or any animal for that matter. Pigs are cute, can be trained the same way as a dog. Be a vegetarian. It's the only ethical thing way to be :)

To the original poster. I am so sorry that happened to you. I don't understand people that scam for any reason. I would not be able to live with myself.
