"A dangerous long duration heat wave will affect B.C. beginning on Friday and lasting until Tuesday.

Threat: Daytime highs ranging from 29 to 37 degrees celsius combined with overnight lows of 18 to 20 degrees celsius. Humidex values during this period will reach the high 30's to possibly the low 40's.

Locations: Metro Vancouver - Central, Metro Vancouver SW, Metro Vancouver - North Shore, Greater Victoria, Howe Sound, Whistler, Sunshine Coast, Southern Gulf Islands, East Vancouver Island, Inland Vancouver Island.

Timespan: Friday to Tuesday.

Remarks: An exceptionally strong ridge of high pressure will develop over British Columbia likely resulting in record breaking temperatures. The duration of this heat wave is concerning as there is little relief at night with elevated overnight temperatures. This record-breaking heat event will increase the potential for heat-related illnesses.

If you don't have air conditioning, get one of those slim box fans. Leave them on overnight to suck in cool night air then draw the blinds during the day.

Or…..you may want to try travelling past Spences Bridge anytime between mid July and mid August, wearing a black shirt.
Lytton in late July is my favorite for outright cookery.
Or Medicine Hat in the Alberta panhandle, dryer though. Have spent summers in both places back in the day, relishing it when the night time dropped down from 110 to 90.

Why is everybody freaking out about a few days heat wave. It's not like lasting for weeks or month.
Go to Panama and try walking on their street for an hour , then come and talk to me about the heat.
Sure... it's very unlikely that any single one person will be greatly harmed, but there'll surely be an accumulation of things that some people could be made aware of. Things like taking care of seniors and high-risk individuals, pets that can overheat or burn their paws outdoors, electrical/mechanical systems that are susceptible to high heat, etc. I can't speak for your (or anyone else's) observed reactions, but from what I've seen so far it's far from "freaking out".

Bad people. Bad!

Our planet is overheating because we human fuktards keep consuming energy for our own comfort, lifestyles, and ego’s. The worst thing you can do is put your ass on a jet plane and fly somewhere for a vacation, family visit, or business trip. Zoom in those visits people! Do your on-line carbon footprint with and without a couple of air travel trips. Please!

Another frivolous thing you can do is to burn energy to cool down a big fucking airspace for your own selfish comfort, effectively fighting your home climate resulting in more ghg emissions.

Embrace the sweaty season my friends. Open your windows, embrace the tropical breeze when it comes. You look good with a little shine on your skin on a hot sunny day. It’s better for life on this planet if you just figure out how to adapt to nature’s cycles instead of artificially trying to control your environment through energy consumption.

I'll be cooling my heels down at the beach with an umbrella, a nice breeze, and a cold one by my side. Best place ever. :)
