Hi Folks,

My daughter produced her Christmas Wish List yesterday and the item at the top with stars beside it, meaning this is what she absolutely wants, was a set of headphones for her computer, I-Phone, etc.
She said she wants either "on ear" or "over ear" ones and the only other criteria is they HAVE to be Red.

Now I know NOTHING about headphones. I told my assistant some kid at Best Buy could sell me 2 soup cans held together by a piece of coat hanger and I'd probably buy them if he told me they were good ones. LOL!

So I thought I'd solicit some expert opinion on this subject. I'd like to keep the cost under $200.00 but would go up to $300 if absolutely necessary.

Thanks

Jethro

Beats, by Dr Dre.

My son's been letting me use his for the last week or so and it is awesome! (It's the studio version.)

$200 to $300? That's crazy. You can get fantastic sound from a pair of $100 JVC, Sony, or Sennheisers. Remember what she'll probably be listening to - Rap, Hip Hop, or other kinds of popular music. It's not classical music, where the high frequency, bass, ambience and quality of sound really matters.

As for RED, that's a girl for ya. Better make sure it's not the wrong shade of red, or you'll have a cry baby on your hands.

Earphones or headphones? If earphones, make sure they're the ones with the squishy things, not the hard things (I don't know what the part that goes in your ear is called, so I'm going with "things" lol). The hard ones always fall out of my ear cause my ears are too small, so that's important to keep in mind as your daughter might be in the same boat. If headphones, I have no idea lol.

Sennheiser are much better
I agree, but they're for audiophiles with refined hearing ability. For the typical teenage/20's something girl, something "cool" looking and the right colour is far far far far more important than actual sound quality.

so you're saying that it is better to spend way more money on an inferior product as a way to set examples to a growing young mind?
Oh yes, I think parents should throw their money down the trash bin and just give in to every child's whim. Do that for a decade and their brains will turn to mush so you won't have to afford post-secondary schooling because they'll be too dumb to get in.

you might check out the headphone bar on broadway near yukon. just headphones; you'll get better advice than best buy or future shop (both generally staffed by know-nothings in my experience). plus you might find something with a bit of teen cachet that isn't what everyone else is using.

I got some nice Sennheiser's from Long and McQuade for low 100s. They will know about headphone sound quality and can help you.
If the fashion/trend is important try checking out Skullcandy. http://ca.skullcandy.com/shop/home I dont know about the sound quality but they look cool.

There is a really good website that reviews headphones called Head-Fi.org It is a great place to read about and compare all the headphones in a given category. Beats for Dr. Dre are actually pretty decent and I would have to agree with the other comments that your daughter is looking for cool, not quality. Beats are the in headphone right now, if you use the nba, nfl as your guideline to cool as all the pro athletes have Beats on there heads.
