...when SP's ask for a reference from one or more reputable SP's as part of their screening process.....reputable based on who's perception ? Also, if seeing an SP for the first time, shouldn't I be allowed to ask for a reference from one or more reputable "pooners" ? Just a thought I thought I'd throw out there.

Is this a real question? Sometimes things are so absurd I'm not sure if it's just expert level trolling.

1) A SP wants the perception of another SP. Duh?
2) Nobody is stopping you from "references" from other pooners. That is literally what the review section is.

OP makes some good points, I kinda look at perb as the “reference“ for SW though.
Within reason and occasionally skeptical. Comes down to the credibility of the reviewEr.

I don’t understand your point. If there is a random dude behind a computer screen asking a reputable pooner/reviewer to provide him a reference, how can he know this random dude is legit and safe for the SP? I’ve been asked by multiple people to give them a reference for seeing an agency. I’ve always said NO because I don’t know who these random people are.

Ohhh... that's what he meant by reference. Shit, that's an even worse take than what I interpreted.

Given the safety issues in the industry, I fully understand the value of providing a reference. But for me it is uncomfortable asking someone to provide a reference for me to see another provider. While I don't participate much these days, I tend to use an agency where the reference model is not used.

What I am comfortable with is providing my Perb handle and it would be great if the Perb handle, especially for those who have been on the board for a significant period of time, became a signal of a reputable client.

Curious what the ladies think of the assurance provided by someone being a perb member.

I've seen/been through a bit of this:

- booked an SP on short notice who I offered my PERB handle to and after booking she commented she had read some posts and thought I was a good guy (thank you)

- first coming to the island from Ab and trying to make a booking I gave my relatively standing CAF handle and the name and # of an SP I saw..hell, 8 yrs ago as it had been that long. As I expected, the AB SP did not remember me ( one time, simply last one I saw) but I didnt know what else I could provide. I think in the end I might have shared a partial picture of my DL. Not something I was crazy comfortable with, hadn't done before but she is not the first..or last who has asked for this and I understand why. If I wasn't single I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have been willing to do that!

There is risk on both sides when booking an encounter especially those with no prior history. I think both parties should do their homework to the extent it makes them feel comfortable and is respectful. I can see PERB being one method. I doubt it will be the primary method. A positive experience with another reputable SP will win the day for most SPs I bet.

The other problems I see with using your handle as a reference:

- There is going to be lower hanging fruit available without an SP having to spebd time reading your posts. Text a fellow SP? Ask for a DL or deposit? Quick! Time is money.

- Maybe they can't even be bothered with these sites.

- Maybe they don't like your opinion or misinterpret your words. Too easy to take things written the wrong way in general.

Given the choice, as a client I'd prefer and I imagine an SP would too, for my good and recent rep to stand for itself. Just easiest and proof in the pudding.
