When I was younger I watched Pretty Woman and immediately wanted to be like Edward Lewis (played by Richard Gere).
A corporate raider who would take over companies and chop em up and sell off the pieces...
Climbing the corporate ladder. After a stint in business school at university I landed a entry level corporate job.
Soon I came to witness a lot corporate politics and quickly became sicken at what colleagues do to each other.
And its not just the men. Some absolutely shrewd and ruthless women where I worked...
The scathing names they would call each other, you'd think they were truck drivers.
Backstabbing, tattle telling, take another person's credit, assigning blame.
Between the politics and the crappy job, I lost interest in the business world and went back to my other passion, computers and tech.
Went back to college for my diploma in computing. After that my work became more enjoyable.
I should be a manager by now, but I can't deal with the politics. Never wanted to be any higher than a senior architect.
Work is great, I get paid well, and my vacations are flexible. I come and go as I please, no set hours. I get my shit done.
Nobody bothers me and I love it.
In a way, I'm already living my dream. Ya it sounds corny but if you're satisfied with your life, why not?
Maybe the terminology is different... people talk about dreams, I talk about goals.
Goals are achievable whereas dreams are more of a fantasy.
Now I'm working on a couple of certificates, one for finance and another for real estate.
The first to help me invest better and the second, well I always had a interest in real estate.
