When it comes to prostitution, both left and right wing parties are influenced by 'pro-criminalization' groups.

PC will bow to the Christian lobby
NDP, and to a lesser extent, Liberals will bow to the feminist lobby.

Left-wing media, such as CBC, appear to have a new bias against prostitution. Subtle, but it is there. How many stories with the word 'misogyny' have appeared on the CBC site recently? Enough that you'd think they have a hotkey on their keyboard to type the word to save a few keystrokes.

C36 is indeed here to stay.

Base your vote on other issues unless a party explicitly states that they will get rid of c36. Trudeau said this a while back. I'm sure he's already changed his mind.

If Harper wins another majority it's quite possible he will fine-tune C36 to make it work better.
With pro-c36 judges in the top courts there is nothing to stop him now. The NDP are not pro-c36.
The Liberals have said they might repeal c36.
So there is a difference.

Don't worry, I'd never vote for Harper.

But don't underestimate the feminists' influence on the NDP. They vote NDP and they hate prostitution. Most mainstream media is left-leaning in Canada. In my estimation, the media will choose to not bring up c36 to help shield their candidates from having to talk about it. Nor will the topic be debated in the public debates. C36 will silently sit undisturbed.

Maybe I'm just a pessimist who has accepted that the battle is already lost.

try to remember that only two of the current supreme court who have gutted Steve's attempts to pander to his base were appointed by anyone other then Steve. He seems to be doing a piss poor job of loading the court with knuckle dragging troglodytes

To the hardcore cons this won't make much difference but if you are sitting on the fence this should be enough to persuade you not to vote for Stephen.
you really think the manchild or the other power monger/nanny would come up with an actual better version? or balanced/fair one?

that wouldn't in some way have consequences? one way or the other, on either side, for the buyer/seller?

like Lisbeth, haven't seen anything worth worrying about so far, haven't heard of one arrest, hardly an issue to let the Justin Smith experiment happen or Tom and the never ending pandering to Que

and if it's too late cause of the judges, what's to say anything the new guy comes up with won't be shot down too? afterall only 2 aren't already his supposed henchmen, lol

Me being a Vancouver resident, did the VPD come out and say that they would not enforce this law? So something along those lines? As for Harper.....my mind was made up last year not to vote for him.

As for Justin......." He's just not ready " :pound::p:clap2:

Actually I would say that it's only modern 'radical feminists' that are anti sex work. They would tell you that we are all being exploited by men and for men, and that we are lying to ourselves if we believe otherwise. I was lucky enough to be raised by a REAL feminist. First woman in her family to go beyond high school. Probably should have been a banker or a doctor, not a nurse. Taught me woeking women are the norm not the exception and that you could still believe in feminism without giving up lipstick, jewellery, perfume & heels. She says she neither approves nor disapproves of what I do, but she is damn sure not about to tell me I don't have the right to do it...and she's voted NDP her entire life, incidentally.

Given that C36 does not criminalize prostitution itself (you can sell but you cannot buy), repealing, modifying or enforcing it should be framed in the context of what makes it safer for sex workers or not. Feminists (and I consider myself one) should not be opposed to actions that make life safer for women practicing a profession they are legally entitled to practice. "If you want to be safe, don't be a prostitute" (i.e. abolition) is not the feminist answer as that's about equivalent to "if you don't want to be sexually assaulted, don't dress provocatively." The intent of the law and a goal of feminism should be to enable the opportunity for freedom of choice. Imposing the radical feminist viewpoint of abolition is no better than imposing a mysogynistic viewpoint IMHO... Both are telling other people to conform to your own standards that they may not share.
