I mean, I've known since I was like 10 this would probably happen in my lifetime, but... still. We are *so* royally fucked.

We are beyond fucked.

We will never be able to change course because of the size of China and India.

The size of their populations and levels of pollution they contribute to the world are beyond reversing at this point, regardless of what we try to do in the West.

All the electric cars and blue bins we are fighting to save the world with are a grain of sand in a ocean of illegal dumping, massive consumption and sky filled pollutants from the three billion people in those two countries.

Ohferchrissake. The climate will change. Ocean currents will change. They may be more long-lived than the little currents in my bathtub, but they are just as certain to change, with or without human influence. There's no reason to claim that the climate conditions we've had for a few hundred years are "normal", and now we're moving to something "abnormal". Yeah, we're probably influencing the current rate of change and if we were smart we'd stop doing that until we understand things better. But climate change has been driving the rise and fall of empires and civilisations since recorded history began. Whether the current climate changes are more extreme because of our influence I can't say, but change would be happening anyway. We adapt or our civilisation falls and eventually something else takes its place. We may not like being replaced but so far it's happened to every civilisation that humans have constructed. We might as well stop moaning, take what measures we can to protect ourselves, and enjoy what we can while we can.

Oh, and forget about pointing fingers at China and India. On a per capita basis we Canadians burn more fossil fuels than almost anyone. Very few individuals in Asia burn more oil than i and most other Canadians do. I've cut way back on driving around in my big hulking pickup truck just for the fun of it, but I still don't hesitate to hop in the truck and fire up the six-litre V8 if I run out of beer. Most people in China and India can't even dream of behaving that way.

Holy jumping jahoosaphat Batman! I've never seen that before! Someone who speaks the truth about anthropogenic climate change and says it plainly.

Greta Thunberg, David Suzuki, and their ilk are convincing three generations of sheeple in polite countries that what we do here makes a tinker's damn of difference to the environment - - - locally or anywhere else.

They are passionately diverting the public's attention off of what actually matters: air, water, and land pollution in developing countries.

If someone were to truly care about saving the biosphere, he or she would become a zealot in geopolitical activism.

So whatabout and we do nothing? Sort of like we did nothing for 100 years while they polluted the great lakes and the air and put plastics in everything worldwide including us?

Yes China and India and the rest of the world have to get past their own corruptuon *AS WELL* as us, and if its in our interest well get our shit together and then boycott products done with dirty air energy.

Drive around on the prairies: lots of empty fields. Too hot and dry to grow, lots of crop failures. No feed or forage for livestock. Fill up your freezer now folks, prices are going way up soon.
If you can grow stuff in your backyard or on a balcony go for it.

it "global waming", not "climate change". time to own the language again.

when i took a biology elective in university i was always struck by the petri dishes that were forgotten in the incubator. in ideal situations bacteria would grow until they drown in their own waste. what makes humans any different except that we know its happening? jump in the truck and get another case of beer! not to single anyone out but what if one had to actually experience or truly pay for that short drive. say, you had to put a mask on and breath in the exhaust fumes while driving.

indeed, civilizations have risen and fallen due to environmental collapse. those people moved on to other environments. this one is different. its global. there is no "moving on". its a closed system. its a petri dish. if people thought the migration of Syrian refugees was dramatic, there will be billions of people on the move soon. yes, in the baby boomers lifetime. its happening far sooner than expected.

and when we get to four degrees, we lose the clouds. then things get very bad.

Sounds like fear mongering to me.

noticing the summers changing over the past 10-20 years? noticing how those changes are getting more dramatic? extrapolate 10 or 20 years in the future.

think its going to just level out at some point? its not.

if thats scary... then so be it.

Everyone would have to do something (a lot, actually) if we actually wanted to slow down or halt this process. Net zero means we have to give up over 80% of our energy consumption, globally, or replace it with non-carbon sources, in a very short time. Probably a lot of both.

Yes China and India contribute 36% of current CO2 emissions. But that leaves 64% for everyone else, most of which come from the developed world.

Canadians have the highest or just about the highest per-capita CO2 emissions in the world and just about the highest quality of life. If we aren't willing to take a major hit to do our part, why should we think anyone else would?

Personally I don't think the human race is going to willingly abandon our modern quality of life even to save the world. But maybe I'll be proved wrong eventually. I know I'm not going to move into a small shoebox and give up personal transportation, travel, and meat, until forced to. I also don't expect anyone else to, because I'm not a hypocrite.

Bottom line, there's too many fucking people on the planet.

Best thing you can do isn't getting an electric car or solar panels.
The best thing you can do is have one or two children instead of four or five.

We are royally fucked till we STOP burning fossil fuels. Millions of IC engines burning 24/7 365 days per year for the last 50 years is accelerating global warming at an alarming rate. China has the highest EV adoption rate in the world and India is beginning to produce an incredibly affordable EV. Both have a higher adoption and usage rate of solar than we do but their population size works against them. If we could convert the major commuter cities of the world to just 1/2 EV usage our emissions would drop drastically and we can slow this thing down. We just have to do it! Oh and you don't hear the Chinese or Indians say stupid shit like "Actually EV's pollute more" or "they're just to expensive" or "the grid can't handle it" as an excuse either.
