"We will be filing a formal complaint on Monday against the NSAC and GSP's cornerman." "We are not trying to make excuses, GSP was the better fighter that night, and we just wish his cornerman didn't cheat by rubbing Vaseline on his back." "Everyone is putting a lot of time and money in too making this sport legit, for someone to do this only hurts the credibility of the sport."

Check out BJ's Website. I love how all of the BJ supporters are saying that if GSP did not have Vaseline on, BJ would have won

GSP wanted it more...

BJ Penn is a great fighter at 155...at 170 or more he looks too slow and overpowered by GSP.

I didn't see much lathering up of oil...but it wouldn't surprise me...

Mexican's too

As Margarito is being investigated for illegal taping his hands..which if found guilty could get him banned for life.

BTW, am I the only one who's a fan of both boxing and MMA?

Y a Whatever GSP kicked the crap out of Penn.. Penn and all of his supporters can't handle it soo.. GSP must have cheated..ya right... Just shut it down Penn.. shut it down or you're gonna get hurt again... and maybe lose that precious belt of yours. To some other guy who cheats... because thats the only way you can explain how you lost....

Unfortunately it's a bit more complicated than that. They are a variety of rules designed to either protect the fighters or to maintain integrety in the sport. Hence the need for a Commission to deal with complaints. Some of the complaints can be extremely serious. For example one boxer died when a fighters trainer removed the horse hair in the gloves. So these infractions can range from the unfair to the very dangerous. And while I think this is far closer to the category of unfair rather than dangerous, I could see why vaseline put of a fighters body, whether by the fighters consent or not, could provide him with an unfair advantage. So in that respect it merits a complaint, and from what I read the complaint is actually originating from the Nevada Boxing (or Athletic) Commission, not the Penn camp.

And an excerpt of the comments in the link lead me to believe they NSAC) does indeed take this seriously.

========================================================

"At the end of the second round I watched, and then another cornerman who I believe was Greg Jackson, he put the Vaseline on Georges' face, and then he put his hand on his back to do the breathing thing they always do," Kizer said. "As soon as I saw that, it looked like there was still some Vaseline on his hand. Not a lot, but still some.

"Tony Liano and I immediately yelled at him, and I don't think he heard us because of the noise. So I actually went into the octagon, and I said, 'Take your hand off of his back. What are you doing?' We wiped it down. We made sure it was wiped down after the third round as well. This was after the second when I was in there. I was very upset. I don't know if they were doing it intentionally or not. Either way, they shouldn't have done it."

Once Kizer left the octagon after the second round, he alerted additional commission and UFC representatives of the improper actions.

"I came out of the octagon and explained to the commissioner what I saw," Kizer said. "I also motioned toward (UFC President) Dana (White) and (UFC co-owner) Lorenzo (Fertitta) so they'd know what I was doing in there. After the fight, actually both Mr. White and Mr. Fertitta both commented on how they're not sure whether those guys need to corner any other UFC (events) ever again. I leave that to them from a company standpoint. We'll deal with it from a commission standpoint."

Kizer admits he's still uncertain whether the corner men were simply careless in their actions or if they had hoped to gain an advantage by making St. Pierre's back slippery.

"It wasn't necessary," Kizer said. "It definitely wasn't fair to Mr. Penn. I don't think it was even fair to Mr. St. Pierre.

"His cornerman should have been more careful if it was an accident. If it was intentional, that's even worse. Just very, very disturbing."

Kizer said that the amount of Vaseline he saw applied didn't seem terribly excessive but that no amount of the substance should have ever been used on the fighter's body.

Well it appears that the Commissions stand point is that no vaseline whatsoever is to be applied to the body. Obviously the rules as written matter, but is seems to be if the Penn camp are complaining during the fight and the Commission is activity involved with this issue during the fight and Dana White is made aware of it, something of significance must have occurred with respect to rule violations.

Having said that, it's more or less making a mountain out of a molehill as this never affected the results of the fight in any way.

Time will tell I guess. Assuming MMA rules are the same as boxing rules regarding this particular issue, you're probably right.

What a joke, if the Vas wasn't slippy I'm sure all of GSP Canadian Man Sweat would have done the trick.

Maybe they will complain that he spent too much time training and that he should cut down on his sweat output.
