Missed the 2025 party on Commercial Drive. Walked the 20 blocks one end to the other last year. The West Broadway event put up portable fencing to the allies. The Drive last year put up giant new dump trucks to keep traffic out. When 12 used to peddle to the bicycle repair shop for parts at Commercial Drive somewhere near Grant Street then. West Broadway used a prominant police presence. Police profile on Commercial party nearly invisible. I stayed on the sidewalk. Passed 3 officers walking in opposite direction. Near the neighbourhood where I went to school. In all the years I didn't once ever hear of anyone consider a police career nor hear touted in any school guidance class.

Funny about police and blocking off roads. Do the event organizers have to pay for the police and use of the road? Some cities charge extra for a festival event for use of police (to cover the overtime of the police). This usually makes alot of people who want to have a large celebration not do one due to cost of the policing and or road closure.
New improved way of taxing the public....

Based on the crowd size and the line-ups for food, there was no shortage of money to pay for security.

Not sure if the organizers have to pay for police presence. I’m sure they are going to be blocking streets at all big street events after the Lapu Lapu incident on Fraser St. Better safe than sorry.

Greek Day on Broadway is typically handled on a cost-recovery basis by the event organizers. According to the Vancouver Police Department , special event policing services, such as those provided for festivals, parades, or large public gatherings, are funded by the organizers of the event. The VPD requires organizers to submit detailed operational plans, including security and traffic management, to determine the number of officers needed. These services are then billed to the event organizers based on the number of officers, hours worked, and other resources deployed.
Basically vendor fees will help cover costs. At least this used to be the norm.
