Good Scotch!

I love myself a good single malt scotch every once in a while. Yes I know I'm not 55+ but still I can appreciate a good splash of the good stuff every once in a while! :D

My house scotch at home would have to be one of my favorites, a Glenfiddich 12.

Now I've got a bottle of the 30 year in my bar at home, and aside from the price I love this stuff too! Smooth, crisp and just the right about of oak make this a wonderful sipping beverage!!

I'm also a bit of a fan of a Dalwhinnie from time to time, also there is not really much wrong with a good Johnny Walker Black Label either...:D

If, however, I TRUELY want to treat myself, well, it's a Macallan 30 year. Only problem with this stuff really is it's $950 price tag...WHEN it is in stock! Last two times I had to special order it in.

Who else out there is a fan of Scotch? :D

As a former (Scottish) colleague once told me, "There's no such thing as bad whisky, just some better than others".

My personal favourite single malt is Oban, but I love almost all of them. The so-called experts always say The Macallan 25 year old is the best of all, but I've seen the owner of the distillery quoted as saying he can't tell the difference between any of his whiskies that are aged more than eight years. There are Scotch snobs, just as there are wine snobs, and they can be just as obnoxious. They'll tell you it's a must to add water and other bullshit. I drink mine neat, because that's the way I like it, and fuck anyone who tells me I'm doing it wrong. If you like yours on the rocks and/or with soda, go for it!

And, you don't have to be over 55 to enjoy it and develop a taste for it (although I am over 55 myself). I started enjoying Scotch when I was about 30.

I'm far from 55 but have always appreciated a blended scotch since my college years. Ive been really into the 18yo Chivas lately but also enjoy Johnny black and gold and was pleasantly surprised with the green single malt.

Nothing soothes your soul like 4 fingers of scotch in a nice crystal glass.

Glenfarclas is extremely rich and distinctive, like a super rich dessert. Their 105 is an excellent cask strength whisky that will put hair on your chest.

Hell, even Johnny Walker Red is a decent blended scotch at $30 a bottle.

I had a bottle of my fave Lagavulin 16 that I had in my bar for quite some time for the occasional indulgence 'cause it's pretty intense stuff. Finished the last few ounces with a friend a few months back and when I went to replace it at the liquor store it was freaking twice the price  from the last bottle I bought, $125. So I got the Laphroaig Quarter Cask 10 year old at $78 a bottle. Decent Islay Scotch but certainly not as peaty or smokey as the Lagavulin.

Oban 14 and Talisker 10 are nice scotches too.

i'm in my late 20's, but i too also enjoy the taste of a nice scotch. i've recently got into glenfiddich 12 in regards to single malts.

but i still do enjoy the blended, and really love jw-green. especially since jw-gold and jw-blue are a lil out of my price range. haha.

Great thread :D

Blended - Chivas Regal or JW Black.

Irish - Bushmills or even better Bushmills Malt (single malt)

Single Malt Scotch

Top Shelf

Oban, Lagavulin, and Glen Garioch 15 yr

Some new ones I have tried this year

Finlaggan (Islay) pleasantly surprised at the price point $75 vs taste.
The Glenrothes (Speyside) and Glen Garioch 12 yr.

Just to change it up a bit, I sometimes will sip on a higher end Tequila too. Not your usual margarita cheap tequila but the smaller batch higher end type. Ultra smooth and unique tastes. I travel to the USA and a few of my friends down there are pretty plugged into the really good tequila available to them.
