The federal government signed an agreement with Medicago back in 2018; that plant is under construction in Quebec and scheduled to begin production in the winter of 2021.Yeah they did say January. But they also said full distribution by September unfortunately.
We need to build vaccine production facilities here, even if it's a crown corporation. This issue will come up again.
Byproduct of globalization. Like most things, I'm sure there were domestic resources, but over time it got cheaper to be produced elsewhere, and I'm sure you know better than most that no one will run an unprofitable business. Subsidies can be provided for critical things (ie. some food industries, mandatory household goods, medication, etc.) but over time people begin to complain that to be a waste of resources... until it's needed again. IMO we're a first world country, and can afford to suck up additional tax dollars (you can argue the source of that, whether it be from individuals or war profiteers) to raise the floor of the Canadian quality of life in times like this, which mind you, does not feel that bad for me but I speak for a very small demographic.Yeah they did say January. But they also said full distribution by September unfortunately.

Sadly that production facility was tied to the efforts between Canada and China Sinovac a huge drug maker. And you know how things are between Canada and Huawei - i mean China. So the building stopped. The federal government signed an agreement with Medicago back in 2018; that plant is under construction in Quebec and scheduled to begin production in the winter of 2021.
The feds have just gone out to tender for this new building titling it more of a logistics center vs it being a production facility with capability for manufacturing. Location is to be in Montreal area where there is a sizable pharma industry.Sadly that production facility was tied to the efforts between Canada and China Sinovac a huge drug maker. As an aside, Canada should have a vaccine production facility. The folks at Saskatoon based VIDO have been world leaders in the game for decades and there is top drawer talent in the game all across the country. Just my 2bits on the topic.

How? We approved it even before the Americans did.we could have had them by now, except the incompetent moron we have chose his commie overlords over Canadians
It's OK, the taxpayer has deep pockets.Btw ..I haven't seen any numbers on the cost of the vaccine dose ..Anyone know what this will end up costing the tax payers per dose?
