I really liked him.
He was a coroner for many years. He saw the very worst of what mankind can and will do to each other. I think he really tried to make things better. Compare that to 'Duddits' McCallum, who is more than happy to sign up for micro lots with 5000 SF houses being built on them, all in pursuit of collecting property tax dollars. Never mind that we are left to live like rabbits in a warren.
