I had similar thoughts when I heard he was skipping the Mercedes. I mean, a week on Maui, playing in an event with no cut, reserved only for the previous year's winners, and probably a million+ to the winner.

Actually, considering all of the media attention he receives at events and all of the expectations placed on him to win every single time he enters into an tournament, I am actually surprised he participates in as many events as he does. I have never had the experience of having a camera (or 80 of them) in my face everywhere I go for a week. I can only imagine how much energy it takes to be able to focus on a task as precise as hitting a golf ball well under those types of conditions. And since none of us have experienced this either, it seems pretty unfair to criticise Tiger, who has.
It has actually been suggested that he might be unstoppable if he only played 12 to 14 events every year, giving his full attention to the four majors and a few others. Nicklaus got to this point in his career and he wound up having a decent career.
