Yup and hard to believe that Wernher Magnus Maximilian Freiherr von Braun the father of the
Nazi Rockets (V2) actually designed and built the most powerful machine made by man.
The Saturn 5 Rocket that took the Apollo missions to the moon and back.
Amazing achievement for it's time when you consider the computers they used had the same
power as a texus instruments calculator back in the '90's.

pretty amazing really when you think about it. design a machine which can sustain life in space and take someone to the moon and back

Pretty disgusting that a Nazi scientist was scooped up by the USA and given safe passage to America along with a new life and had all of his SINS erased for the sake of "science".

I gotta agree at first thought. It just rubs me the wrong way as well that something our fallen heroes fell in battle
over were in a sense betrayed by the USA bringing that NAZI scum to work for them. I would have shot him dead
on the spot. But you know how it is in war. The spoils go to the victor or in this case, about half of them.

its called self preservation, the Russians scooped up German rocket scientists as well

was in the name of military defense, not science
BINGO!! We got a winner! LOL!!
Especially since the powers to be wanted this technology to deliver the atomic bomb in a different way rather than
being carried by bombers like the B-29 and so on. Oh sure they did not yet have a working A bomb in May of '45
but sure as hell were on their way to completing it only a month or so later. They knew what they were after and took
it in the name of military defense as they were thinking about it. But those who rounded up Von Braun I would bet
were told it was in the name of science.

To this day it stills blows my freakin mind bro. I mean these puny challenger space shuttles they
settled for to orbit the earth, do studies, put satellites in position and support a space station
and so on looks like peanuts compared to the Saturn 5 missions of yesteryear.

Just think of the fact about that tiny fragile lunar lander that took those 3 astronauts from an orbit
around the moon, down to its surface and bring them back to the lunar orbiter to rendevous with and
get them back to earth. MIND BOGGLING!!

I can't wait to see a new launching of men to Mars. I sure hope I'm around when that finally
gets off the ground.
It will be like going back in time to the Apollo 11 Moon Landing.

Space: the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Its five-year mission:
to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where
no man has gone before.

Star Trek Rocks!! LOL!!

in this application an explosive charge is not very different than compressed air

expanding gasses propelling something like a piston in a cylinder

the explosive is just for the expansion of gas opposed to blowing something up
