Thats just cruel. I don't know but if some rich tourist gave me a $100 tip because it's like, $5 to him, I'd be happy. I'm not going to retire on it or anything, but it would make my day. And then to find out it's crappy tire money? What are you thinking?

It was embarrassing enough when some locals asked me to exchange $4 Canadian for $5 CUC... some fellow Canadian had tipped them in what is essentially worthless money, as they can't exchange it themselves. That said, I could've exchanged $4 CUC for $4 CDN and called it a fair trade, but once again... greed got the better of them, and they got nothing. $4 CDN is worth $3.6 CUC.

Don't rip off or hoodwink the locals, please... as annoying as their requests for tips is, be a good traveler and tip something or nothing, but don't tip in a cruel fashion.

Pack icebreaker stuff, or travex...things that are easy to wash & dry. The fewer articles of clothing the better... make sure it's simple / plain, nothing flashy. I recommend leaving your expensive cell phone at home, as well as your laptop if you can... the cell phone is easy to steal, and the laptop won't fit in your security box. Besides, you should be taking your vacation to de-stress and disconnect.

Pizza .... lol

Actually, meat of some sort, rice, beans, some in stock vegetable. Friend bananas... national beverage. Etc, that's a pretty standard meal. The street food is burgers of questionable quality, ham & cheese, pizza, and some sort of coloured and nameless sugary drink (orange, black/brown etc)...or sugar cane juice, which you can buy for $/200ml or 250 ml... just bring a refillable bottle.

Don't waste time bringing cra to give away. I was there just before Christmas and wondered into a flea market full of the crap that people bring with them to help the locals. The ones that do need the stuff so not live near the resorts but inland and they never get the stuff. Resort staff make huge money on rips especially when half the people tip like they are here. Also if you want to mingle and meet locals stay closer to resort cities. As it can be a long ride home on the hop on hop off bus. Don't trust cigar store in hotels as they will show you cigars and box give you a slightly different cigar that costs more it was good but not what I wanted.

Food was good when I was there very euro same quality as jamaica.
