My kid just got back from Europe (Poland,Germany,France, Netherlands, Italy and UK) and she said there wasn't much hostility to Americans. They can differentiate between government policy and individual attitudes.

Unfortunately, it's been the attitudes of the stereotypical "ugly American tourists" who are held in disdain over there.

Nevertheless, I'm guessing that your daughter travels in more intellectual circles anyway. I've had the same luck when I've been to the States because I always met a lot of Americans who were quite knowledgable about Canada.
