Why was my post deleted??? That is SO not cool! It was relevant, it was good and it took me a long time to write. And there's NO reason why it would need to be deleted. Fuck. I'm upset now.

Thanks for at least having one paragraph quoted though. At least I didn't totally waste my time actually making an effort to write that. Although none of my response to the actual topic of this thread survived. :(

Why would you delete my post?
Because there was a quote from Silky/Intangir and all of his posts get deleted? I don't care about his posts but that was mine you deleted.

Worse yet..... My whole post is deleted.......... but THIS CRAP stays?!?!

Glen Beck sucks cock and swallows and he licks guys assholes and takes it up the ass all the time, and if he doesnt he might as well.

Awesome!

Argh. This SUCKS.
*is upset and stomps off*

I am happy that your post was restored. I find the versions of the "baloney detection toolkit" extremely helpful. Critical thinking is a skill that should be taught as soon as children are old enough to understand the concepts, and that would be a great tool.

Unfortunately, for so many reasons, we are afraid of such learning. Why?
- It would encourage children to question things they are taught, both in school and at home.
- Too many teachers would not understand the curriculum
- Free-thinking citizens would not be appropriate for the way our society is structured. We would start to ignore advertising and other foundations of capitalism. We would question religious claims. We would question political claims. Our school system can't afford being attacked by the representatives of business, religion, and the political sphere that funds them. The more conservative and backwards the society, the greater the emphasis in education on the "basics" and direct preparation for the job market.

I wish I knew of a solution.

P.S. You did say you would only "seriously consider" his proposal; you are free to choose me instead. :)

If you can get my whole post back, I will seriously consider marrying you. <img src="http://smileys.emoticonsonly.com/emoticons/h/hug-2497.gif" border="0" alt="Hug" title = "Hug emoticon" />
Your whole post is back. ;)

I have to admit though, I had nothing to do with it, so I suppose the nuptials are deferred.

I think these ideas would at the very least be a pretty good start... :)

(and if you enjoyed his talk...here's the one from a previous year - it's also great.) Btw his book The Element is fabulous.

And this is just one example.. (the fact that he is home schooled is also pretty interesting IMO.. )

Isn't that kid awesome? IMO the solution is more kids like him (and more parents doing what his parents are doing!) :)

I don't pay much attention to Bech, but I do recall seeing a minute or two of some coverage of a lenghty speech he was giving to some right wing rally. He was sweating so profusely I was worried he was about to collapse.
