Hey, I figured I might as well ask here, since I'm having no luck with the other online sites I check.

I'm just clueless how to get my pics from my solo phone to my macbook. I've set up a bluetooth link, but the phone just doesn't seem to do anything when I try to upload.

Since it has a camera, you would think it would want to send photos somewhere. Or do I have to pay extra for this service?

Anyone got any ideas?

Send them as an mms to your email address and upload them from there as an attachment.

That would seem like it should work, but every time I do it, it says "busy, try again."

Try a hard reset on your phone. Remove battery, and then reboot. Send them to an email address such as yahoo or hotmail and see if it arrives.

What brand of handset (Motorola, Nokia, Sony, etc...) would help. Did your phone come with software (you can download from bittorrent sites or buy it)? If it is on flash memory card like microSD, just use a flash card reader.

It's a Samsung. It didn't come with softwear or a patch chord to connect to the computer. And though my computer connects with it via bluetooth, my computer is unable to access any files on the phone.

I admit I bought the lowest priced handset, and at the time I didn't care about the camera. I still don't, since now I've bought a digital camera and I probably won't use this phone camera ever again.

But there are some pics I took with the phone that I would like to load onto the computer--especially those of my GF--so I can then delete them from the phone.

After doing more searches on the web, I find this is a problem with this handset and Solo. It doesn't let you connect to the web browser, and yet you need the web browser to send pics from your phone.

So I gather what you have to do is activate a web browser package as an addition to your phone in order for the browser to work.

Next time I'm near a Bell store, I'll go in and ask about this and see if they have any answers.

I have had this problem (file transfer via bluetooth AND connecting to the internet) with my Nokia while I'm able to do it with my
Motorolla RAZR. I'm also with SOLO so I never understood why that was..

Lovely Miss Bijou, I think Bell does this so they can get you to pay more for their services.

From browsing the message boards on this topic, it seems you can't download ringtones from the internet, because Bell wants you to buy their ringtones. So they have a built-in firewall on the phone that prevents computers communicating with the phone--even with a bluetooth connection. And I guess the firewall also prevents anything else being sent between phone and computer.

Yes, but BOTH of my phones are with SOLO (different numbers)..so why would one of them work just fine but not the other..? bleh.

I guess one of your phones has the right features and the other one doesn't.

But I'm just as confused as you are, Miss Bijou.

I'm still looking into this. I went to the Bell store and asked about possibly paying an extra fee on my phone card to get the web browser. But the fellow said the only way was to get a special plan that included the browser. And then he proceeded to try and sell me on a plan. I asked if there was any other way to send pictures from the phone to the computer and he said I could get a patch chord to hook to the USB port on the computer from the phone. I asked if this would bypass the firewall, and he said it would. But they didn't have the patch chord, he said I had to go to Futureshop.

I had already been to Futureshop to get a new powerchord for my computer, which cost a hundred and fifty dollars, so I didn't want to go back there. I decided to check other places. London Drugs didn't have the patch chord. I went to a little computer accessories store and the guy was very helpful but didn't have one in stock. However he looked it up for me on the Bell website, and it should cost thirty dollars.

At Futureshop they didn't have the patch chord. I probably can order it over the internet from Bell. However, I'm hesitant, because I'm not sure even if I get the patch chord that it will actually allow the computer to communicate with the phone. That firewall might still stop any files from being downloaded.

It also seems a lot of trouble just to get a few photos off my phone--sentimental value or not.

It's pretty ridiculous that they give you a phone with a camera, but you can't actually use the camera. They should explain those things when you buy the phone.

Online ;)
Bluetooth data transfer requires that the phone support OBEX (OBject EXchange) as a protocol and not all phones do that. The reason for the data plan would be so you can essentially email yourself the file. The patch cord has no bearing on your firewall if you're not using the USB cable to allow internet access via you phone (called tethering, can be expensive). What the USB cable and attendant software will allow is for you to upload and download files to/from the phone mush as if you were accessing a USB drive, albeit in a proprietary fashion. If you want more information feel free to PM me.

Well I've bought the USB data cable from an online source, so we'll see how it works when I get it in the mail.

Another update. I got the USB data cable. The order should have come with a software cd--it didn't. I connect the phone to my Mac with the cable and nothing happens. Wasted money.

I could try to get the software, but really I'm so fed up with this.

My phone doesn't have a card. Solo phones don't work like that.

I can connect with Bluetooth, it's just that the firewall on the phone won't allow my computer to access any data.

The guys in the Bell store confirmed this.
