I believe a solution the city of New York tried in order to solve the panhandler problem was to make it a offence to give money to panhadlers.

Now that smokes cost about $9 a pack, I'm encountering even more people trying to bum smokes from me, and I'm seeing more ashtray raiders picking the used butts. I'm also hearing stories about cigarette-related muggings.

Another screwed up goverment policy is the prohibition of the sale of cigarettes to minors. In theory, sounds like a good idea.

But, if teenagers can't get their hands on tobacco to smoke, they go get themselves some pot! I've been told that it is much easier to buy pot than smokes in highschool nowadays.

Pisses me off when a panhandler develops some elaborate lie to try and get my money. Just ask me for change and I'll either say yes or no. One guy on Whyte Ave has used the same story on me at least 5 or 6 times over the last few months.... he's just arrived from Ontario, all his stuff got ripped off in the airport and he just needs money for a hotel that night. At least if you're going to BS me, come up with a new story every once in a while.

I don't give to panhandlers, sorry i work hard for my cash and I see no sense having it spent on someone elses booze or drugs. I do contribute to a couple of charities that I think do good work, but come up to me on the stret and you get a polite "no sorry". I think it is important to actually respond to people but my response is NO.

You can't save everyone, infact many don't want to be saved.
