Finning left because it could run as a cheaper, non union company down in the states. It's workers here refused to decertify/take a massive pay cut, so it packed up and left. That occured during the Liberal reign, not the NDP reign.

What could make things really interesting is the BC Conservative party coming up the middle, so to speak. How much would their vote splitting affect the outcome of the election?
The conservatives and liberals need to figure out a way to get amalgamated to avoid vote splitting. There's a lesson to be learned from the Reform part and the Conservatives federally.

liberals are toast(thanks hst) you gotta be very naive to think that "all' politicians aren't crooks.Finning wanted concessions from the union(to the tune of 50% wage reductions) good bye see ya later finning.Liberals are as we speak syphoning nearly $2 billion from icbc & bc hydro( no wonder there's no tax increases:confused:) Liberals are gonna give us all a big fuck you before they get voted out & leave a huge shit storm. Everyone of them is gonna walk away with a nice fat pension(which every tax paying british columbian contributes over $20 for every $1 that they put in) left wing ,right wing? your all rubes believing your ideological dogma.
New jobs? how's that gonna happen when all our natural resources are being sent over sea's? Lets face it, the middle class are no longer needed in north america,& who's taxes do you think pays for all our services? a billion asians, south asians & i'm thinking a lot of them are gonna be the "new" middle class & we'll be left at the curb with all the other trash.....

Nice to see someone posting actual facts. It's a refreshing change.

I sorta agree with your last sentence, as the middle class is disappearing. As some of you are obviously unaware, Christy Clark is aligning herself with the federal Cons party, hiring 'advisors' from Harper's stable. The BC Liberal Party is now tuning into the farm team for the 'Harper Gov't, and Christy is not centre-right as the past incarnation of this this party was. She's really quite ineffectual so far, dithering around with lipstick photo-ops, and really not doing anything worth the tax-payer's money....though in retrospect, thats never happened with any political party. The NDP is not the Glen Clark party it used to be, and the fast ferry fiasco was a huge mistake. But, let's not forget the fiasco's the Liberals have ran into, caused by their own idiocy.

The HST
Waterfront Convention Centre
BC Rail...including the cover-up, paying the fees for Basi and Virk....really must be looked into. Rotten.
HEU contracts ripped up
BCTF contracts ripped up
Crony-ism
and on..and on.

Also, don't forget that the Liberals could've sold the Fast Ferries to Ontario. Yes, they would've taken a massive loss, but they would've recovered significant funds, still been able to throw feces in the face of the NDP, and also been able to crow about being fiscally savvy.

Instead, they proved (christy was there for this too...) how fiscally inept they are. Sadly, the Liberals and their federal counterparts are excellent at depleting treasuries and forcing an ever shrinking middle class to shoulder an ever increasing burdern of (hidden or obvious) taxation, mostly without any new services rendered.

Here's an interesting twist... the government is always lamenting the cost of teachers/education. Then why does it continue to pay obscene salaries/funds to BCPEPCI (I think that's the abbreviation)... a slush fund for Gordo's appointees. The only mandate of BCPEPCI is to stall negotions, say NO to any requests/demands that the teachers union puts forward, and toe the government line... all in order to force negotiations to a point where the government simply legislates a contract.

In effect, it's the Liberals spending our money in order to try to lend an appearence of legitimacy to their negotiation methods. It would save everyone ALOT of cash (millions each year) if the government simply said NO to everything (which they already do) and went on from there... legislate as they always do. BCPEPCI is nothing but a pork barreling fund for friends of the government.

I'm not anti government, or pro teacher/ndp... I'm just anti idiot and pro financial responsibility.

I just did. It sounded quite typical of question period with each side refusing to engage the other on it's chosen subject. The premier refusing to answer about their 700 M. fire sale and Dix refusing to discuss the Teachers. Seems to me it was a zero sum.

The Speaker did not have to call Dix to order as he did Clark. Besides, it is QP, the opposition gets that one opportunity to set the agenda. Refusing to answer questions is one thing, entirely changing the subject and droning on like a adolescent is another.

The Liberals are reportedly so embarassed by Clark's performance that Rich Coleman told reporters he's going to have a chat with the Speaker and direct Barisoff to layoff on the Premier.

Listen to his policies? Kidding right? Like so many predecessors before him, he doesn't have specific policies to listen too. Just criticisms and dogma. It is good for an opposition to hold the guys in power accountable, but how would he say solve the teacher's dispute? No clue. Just another fucking politician. Don't drink the coolaid.

All the money these special interest chest thumpers want to spend is OUR MONEY. It is not the government's money, it is OUR MONEY. We are the taxpayers. We fund the government, who pay the teachers and other civil servants. The government is just the custodian of our cash, the setters of policy to try and manage a sustainable environment for social and economic welfare. Make no mistake, Dix and the NDP want bigger government, will spend OUR CASH, and have no credible way to explain how they will pay for it all. I want to see workers get paid, not just whiners. And that means somebody has to pay for it. When the government pays, you and I pay. Nobody will do a great job for BC in this next round, but at least I know where I am most likely to keep my job and my meager savings intact.

adrian dix will surprise you....he's intelligent, pragmatic, and is feisty. He can take on the Clark and the Fiberals and win. But most of the media will unfortunately paint him as far left. I just ask that we listen to his policies then decide for yourself.

You're right, it is the public's money. And the present administration has shown considerable contempt for that fact. When Dix asked for details on the Govt's plan to liquidate $708 million dollars worth of public assets, he got zero answers from the Premier, just a yahoo tirade about why the Opposition needed to take a stand on the teacher's contract.

Maybe someone like yourself should tell the Premier that the NDP has said that every one of their 33 MLAs will use their entire 30 minutes to speak on Bill 22. If she want's to know what the NDP thinks about education she'll have ample opportunity to find out.

Yep, it will be epic. The NDP will talk for 990 minutes without saying a single thing of substance. I doubt very much the Premier will hear anything even remotely committing the NDP to a tangible position about how Dix-head would resolve the situation or offering a solution with any objectivity or creativity. Nope, he and his gang will just whine and bitch and criticize without taking a stand on what they would do instead. Standard boring opposition rhetoric waste of time. You think this will be a constructive session? It will just be a bitch session with an inevitable ending. Sad.

990 minutes? That's nothing... Christy Clark has said nothing of substance since she took over Gordo's seat.

The BC Liberals are a party worthy of being wiped off the map.

They are by far the worst government in the history of the province, maybe anywhere else in Canada (current Feds notwithstanding).

How anyone could still support them is a mystery.
Vote Green, NDP, Conservative, Communist or Marijuana, but do not reward the current idiots.

Well, by splitting your vote, you are essentially voting for the Liberals, but I digress.

I'm sure there are some perfectly good mla's in the Liberal party, sadly, the top down control exerted by Gordo/Christy has stiffled any good that might've been there. Since they are so very much run by dogma and special interest groups, the full party has actually had little chance to govern. Perhaps some time out of office would allow them to reflect on their failings and return to representing the people, rather than special interest groups... as well as get away from being politically vindictive (which really reflects poorly on them).

Yes, there was Barry Penner, for example. He quit the day after the Premier ridiculed the justice system for not doing the Canuck rioter cases overnite.

pardners, it's a fairly common political strategy to keep a very low profile during a term in office, on the grounds that if you say nothing, then your opposition will hang themselves by shooting off their goofball mouths. however, if both parties do this, then it ends up being a mexican standoff with nobody saying anything, making both of them look like goofballs (which is dang close to the truth, lol)
