Free Player for most popular movies format on the net ?

Can anyone here please advise me on a free player that I can dowload to my new notebook using Vista home that is trouble,virus, and spyware free ?

I have some torrent movies friends have given to me but I cant open them ?

While I like and use media player classic more, I feel VLC will be more suitable for people who just want to be able to play their files, no frills.

Does it work with VIsta 64 home premium ?

Guys thanks for all your inputs but the link give me a 32.exe not 64.exe

so would this 32 bits work on my vista 64 bit if not please advise where I can download the VLC player that is compatible to Vista 64.

vista 64 can play 32 bit stuff and 64 bit stuff ..so it is compatible
