Good to see some fairly balanced views here.
IMO the most important voices are those who have either worked with or been addicts themselves and what they observed/experienced. Like so many other things, 100ppl may give you 100 different responses but the preponderance of experiences I’ve read about highlight “harm reduction “ (through methods similar to these).

I can’t prove it but I believe that the rising number of addicts is not directly or wholly caused by access to drugs.Even in places like Singapore or Bali, where drugpossession results in incredible punishments (incl death) there are addicts. There are other social forces at work (beyond my expertise) that need to be addressed before youblame addiction entirely on “easy/free access”. Yes, some # of addicts may come from that but as others have said, look at the total gains to society and total costs with status-quo.
And if you’re the type to feel that a dead addict is a good thing then 1) fuck off with that bullshit, and 2) it doesn’t help the #’s anyway, does it? (In some folks’ twisted minds).

In the long run this could achieve a certain amount of success if implemented correctly RIGHT ACROSS THE COUNTRY. If it is only available here there will be an exodus of drug users swarming to Vancouver. This has been happening for years already because of our mild winters and lesser penalties in our courts. Most likely those in charge will screw this up like every other program that’s gone off the rails because of a half assed effort!
