but refs in the NBA would rarely call that.

for me, that's one of the problems with basketball - the rule book now is a 32 volume encyclopedia covering things like the position of your lips when you dunk a basket! ;)

there's plenty to chew on in the comments. apparently there's a partial step allowed when a player takes possession of the ball before they even start counting travelling steps, and another partial step when the player starts their drive for the basket

then there's something about whether the ball is supported by the hand or if the hand is held above the ball :confused:

the rule book used to be a small pamphlet... it ain't that way any more!
