Actually it more refers to Greenland when it was settled by the Vikings and it literally meant that is was a Green Land in that it was fertile and the climate was warm and crops were able to be grown.
As for 80watts yapping off about running a vehicle in a garage for say half an hour and you die....that is because you die of Carbon Monoxide poisoning not because of Carbon Dioxide which every living creature on the planet exudes after breathing in Oxygen.....oh and for shits and giggles ALL plant life on this planet CONSUMES Carbon Dioxide and emits Oxygen as a waste product.Get your facts salient and straight....this is not the CBC.

SR, the point is the garage is the world's atmosphere and we are filling it up with CO2. The consistent increase in burning wood and fossil fuels since the early 1800's is starting to fill the atmosphere. The idea about the garage is the truck's engine burns all the oxygen in the garage and leaves nothing but CO2 for the person to breathe in. The body needs oxygen not CO2. CO is worse for the body.(see ref below, but both CO and CO2 can kill you).I might be wrong on the timing of when you die, but it will happen from either CO2 or CO.
You cannot breath CO2, yes plants can breathe CO2, but a humans body needs oxygen to work. Most men don't have plants in their garage, and they would need alot more plants (in the garage) to convert the CO2 to oxygen in order to breath after an hour in a garage with the truck running. The body needs oxygen. You need mature plants and trees to convert CO2 to O2 (mature plants are the the more efficient converters of CO2 to O2) (see deforestation ref below)
Trucks only produce CO or Carbon monoxide if there is a lack of oxygen (air) present when fuel is burnt (which is why engines are fed more air, so fuel burns correctly making the fuel burn more efficiently). Proper combustion of any hydrocarbon produces CO2 and water (H2O).
SR you should get your car/truck fixed if its producing CO. I have to assume that its running correctly, so therefore it wouldn't produce CO; only CO2.

As for the ice cube in water, (check out the utube video where they demonstrate 2 glasses with ice in them, with one having a rock with the ice on top of it.) Yes the north pole is located on water, but there are lots of landmasses in the arctic that are covered in ice. The Greenland ice-sheet is melting a increased rate. This ice rest above sea level on land and therefore will increase the level of the sea. Antarctica ice is melting too.
So SR, if you are so smart, please conduct that experiment in your garage, afterall you think a little bit of CO2 can't hurt you.....When the truck engine stops due to lack of oxygen, you are probably dead,and you don't know it; cause all the oxygen has been turned into CO2....... I’m fully aware that land masses such as Greenland and Antarctica have ice on them which if it melted would raise ocean levels, however you included the North Pole ice in your post which will do nothing to ocean levels if it melts. You seem a bit confused by that.
Some 28 years ago a group of aviation enthusiasts went to green land to try and retrieve some P 38 fighters that had to land there on the way to England during WW 2 due to bad weather. The pilots were rescued but the planes were left behind. When the recovery operation was started turned out the one plane they were able to locate and work at to retrieve was under roughly 170 feet of ice. Thats a pretty big accumulation of ice in the 50 years since the planes were left behind on the surface of the glacier. Doesn’t sound like there is much melting going on to me.

About 11600 years ago the ocean boundary on all the continents were approximately 100 lower than it is today. So that means in the last 11600 years the oceans have risen 100 ft. Most of that came from the northern hemisphere after the last great ice age which covered NA down past the Canadian Border into the US. But is way too important for lesser humans to care about it, as it would interfere with the quality of life they have. The freedom to drive anywhere. The warmth in your house during a cold winter. Life's little comfortable possessions all have a carbon footprint.
Take a look at what resources it takes to run a civilization. It all used to be man-powered by people (Empires only existed because they had slaves and peasants), then is was cattle, then horse, and in the 18 century machines started to replace the animals. Today our civilization runs on machines powered by fossil fuels.
Part of civilization is how much resources we use up, there is no where on this earth we haven't been and where we go, we reap disaster on the natural world. The Polynesians had codes for how to run their lives, separation of women and men, to prevent overpopulation, when to hunt and fish, what they could take when hunting and fishing, all to sustain the environment. Modern Man just takes and takes, and dosen't give back to nature. Modern man thinks his technology will prevent that collapse.

In Roman times Pompeii was a seaport town. If you’ve ever been there you’ll notice it’s a long way to the sea now, between 1/2 and 1 mile away, so the sea level has declined considerably in 2000 years or so. If you go to fort Louisberg on cape Breton you’ll find out the sea level was a foot higher when the fort was in use in the mid 18 th century.
