The other thread on scammer mechanics brought up many bad memories. Who can recommend an honest shop that does good work for a reasonable price? Let's make a list...

Certigard at Fraser & Marine. Sall's in Burnaby on Imperial & Royal Oak. Also a couple of guys that work from their back yards in Vancouver. Don't laugh, both are in the limousine business and maintain their own vehicles as well as for other independent operators.

blitkrieg automotive near main and 2nd avenue! I take my VW there and great prices and the guys there really know what they're doing! They mainly do german cars and are really into tuner's especially badass porsche's and audi's.
I hear you. Many years ago, with my first Porsche, I had one of those backyard mechanics who lived a mere 5 minute drive from home. Back then he charged me $25 an hour which was one quarter of the big shop rates. All the receipts for the parts were provided and charged at cost. When I blew my engine from a very hard run on the Expo Molson Indy track (after hours, closed track), the engine rebuild was only a few grand. Six years of great inexpensive service did not go unnoticed. When he fell on hard times, I gave him a used toy to aid him however he deemed fit. He ended up driving it during one summer before selling it. Call it good karma.
He's now retired and taking dance lessons. Go figure. Gosh I miss those backyard mechanics.
Well it appears the verdict is in. The death of this thread before my bump shows there are almost no good repair shops
There are good repair shops. But I think its car specific. I have a 930 Turbo, and a newer Subaru Sti.
I have a great Porsche Mechanic, good prices (relative to Porsche) owns a 930 Turbo himself, has access to used parts for this model that noone else has. Which saves money.
But if a coworkers Minivan needs new brakes, I wont recommend him.
My Subaru gets most of its work done in Squamish
