I rented Metal - A Headbangers Journey last night. It's basically a guy from Vic trying to find out why metal has such diehard fans (like me) and why it has such a social stigma. He interviews such metal gods as Bruce Dickensen, Ronnie James Dio, Dee Snider, Slipnot, Vince Neil and Geddy Lee. There is pretty disturbing stuff on the Norwegian Death Metal scene. Covers the history of Metal form Sabbath to Arch Enemy. Excellent documentary if you in to Metal or ever wanted to know about the Metal scene.

Mullet Fever?

I didn't realize the mullet originated in metal I thought it was from Saturday Night Fever?

I rented this too and thought it was quite good. Though I thought that the "Decline of Western Civilization: The Metal Years" was better and funnier.

Another related rental is "New York Doll" about Arthur "Killer" Kane. Also excellent.

No it doesn't. The angle is that the filmmaker is an anthropologist so its mostly about the fans. Rob Zombie is great in it btw.
yaaah i saw him at UBC during Ozz Fest ... he was super cool.

In a nice wet pussy!
I found this at Wikipedia...

The mullet became popular in the 1970s (in part due to the influence of English pop star David Bowie), but is known to have been worn long before then. David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust hairstyle was considered glamorous among devotees of glam rock and glitter rock. Urban legends have it dating back to 19th Century fishermen, who wore their hair long in the back to keep warm - hence the term mullet. The Notes section of the Viking edition of Lydia Davis's translation of Swann's Way by Proust states "Jean Baptiste Prosper Bressant was a well-known actor who introduced a new hairstyle, which consisted of wearing the hair in a crew cut in front and longer in the back."

Decline was also a good documentary. I have not seen it in years but as I recall I was mostly about the LA glam scene. Though, as I recall, it had Ozzy being interviewed when he was making breakfast and spill OJ everywhere. The prelude his reality show.

I thought Metal was better because it did a better job of talking about all genres of Metal. It as brought up good points topics like censorship and women in the scene.

Thanks for clearing the "mullet issue" Maury. Even I had this bad notion about mullets and metal. Bad social stereotype I guess.
