Five charged after Chinese teen sells kidney to buy iPhone

In a culture where the status symbol is an object you can buy with money, im not surprised something like this happens. The amount of corruption in China which allows things like this to happen isnt too surprising given the history of what they have been through. The kid knows he will be saving up for a long time until he can finally buy what he wants, so he does what he has to in order to get what he wants. That is probably one of the reasons why China is the counterfeiting capital of the world.

Agree. Sometimes I wonder how a country that is as big and rich in culture and history as China is, that it is also so devoid of ethics, humanity and morals. Such an example can be seen in the following video clip:

I am of asian decent, and I have seen that video, but I have never stepped foot in China before. My guess as to why there was a hit and run is because the person driving thinks its too big of a hassle to accept the consequences of his mistake. The people that walked right by the little girl probably didnt want to get involved in the whole issue. Nothing worse then being accused of doing something you didnt do because you did the right thing since you are the one that decided to step in and help. If some of the cities in the country had CCTV on the streets and roads(unlikely in Chinas case), then I would be willing to bet that more people would be willing to stand up and lend a helping hand.

Kinda fishy how they can't figure out who the recipient of the kidney was. A simple waterboarding or blackmailing of the suspects would be easy enough to figure out who has the kidneys.

Any bets it's some high ranking official guy and that the case will end as soon as the kid is dead?
